Willow’s nose crinkles, and she shares a look with Riana. “Old. Like a dad.”

“A hot dad,” Riana mutters.

I stare at Riana, blinking once. She lifts an eyebrow at me as if to say, yeah, I said that. Not that I care. “This tall?” I lift my hand a little higher than my height. “Dark hair, beard? Broken nose?”

“Shit, you don’t think—” Matt says.

Riana rolls her eyes to the sky. “Yeah. Rugged. He gave off a dangerous vibe. I must have a type.” She lets out a sigh, her eyes softening as they trace a path from my booted feet up to my face. “Damn, Blake, I really liked you. I would have done anything for you.”

“I don’t have time to rehash our relationship, Ria.” I only care about one omega right now, and she could be in danger because of me.

My rash behavior alerted her dad that she was here, and I'm positive he came for her.

Cam steps in front of Riana, effectively blocking her from view. “Her dad has her?” He throws out his arms. “This is real fucking bad.”

“Riley, you claimed her, can you sense her?” Matt asks. He pulls his headband up from around his neck, securing his wild curls away from his face.

“Not really. She wasn't in heat, and you know it's only permanent if she's in heat.” He turns and heads for the parking lot. We cross the lot hot on his heels, swerving through cars toward the Bronco.

Matt is behind the wheel, the engine revving before we're inside.

Gravel flies from beneath the tires as he kicks it into reverse, enough to shoot forward and out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell. I grip the ‘oh shit’ bar as my ass slides across the smooth leather of the backseat smacking into Riley.

“Don't kill us before we get there,” Cam says from the passenger front seat, his grip white on his own bar.

“What if he hurts her before we can get to her?” Matt shoots back as he speeds down the dark county road. He takes the curve onto the freeway like he's a race car driver and his career depends on winning.

“Do you think he took her to his house?” I ask. It is doubtful. He probably had some place to take her.

“We are going to find out.” Riley shares a look with me. Her piece of shit father will be lucky if he still has a heartbeat after we are done beating him.

CHAPTER 37

Erin

Present

My legs are tight against my chest, and I’ve tucked myself as far into the corner of the cot in the cell as I can. The woman from before slipped out, locking the door behind her, with promises of returning.

I didn’t ask the million questions I should have while she was here. And I’m starting to think they are using an omega to make me calm. Darker thoughts wash over me, past memories I will never escape.

This isn’t the first time my dad found me. He found me once in high school.

Nikki shuts her locker and straightens up, her books secured in her arms. “So much homework,” she complains.

I laugh because that is what is expected. If Nikki is anything, she is boy-crazy, and anything that takes away hanging out with her chosen flavor of the month is bad. Including homework.

“Where is your backpack? Don’t you have homework?” She eyes my shoulders as if my backpack will appear.

“It isn’t actually homework if you use the time the teachers give in class.”

“How are we even friends?” She turns toward the exit, waving at Adam as we pass him. He throws her a wink, and I’m sure he is next in her line of broken hearts. Poor guy.

“I’m pretty sure you are holding me hostage,” I joke.

She rolls her eyes. “Whatever, you love me. I might not be those guys you are obsessed with, but I’m pretty awesome for a beta.”

“I’m not obsessed with guys.”
