“Griffin and I planned this. If something were to happen, I was to drive until one of my sons tells me it’s safe to return.” Luna slides into the driver’s side of the vehicle and fires it up.
I want to cry with as helpless as I feel right now. The Luna kisses my forehead and takes off without another word. I watch her taillights disappear down the driveway, and then there’s nothing left to watch. If I listen closely, I can barely hear her tires on the asphalt.
It’s almost an hour before Andrea makes it to the house, pulling at her short bleached hair. “What happened?” I want to shake her till I get an answer.
“Someone stole Grace.”
The minute the words fall from her lips, my world fell apart in an instant. Dropping to my knees, my hands fly to my face as I let the tears flow. “Why would they do that?” I can’t fathom why anyone would have anything against such a sweet and loving woman.
“We caught the scent of a female where Grace last stood. She’s not from our pack, so we have no clue as to the motive.” Andrea runs her fingers along my back, trying to soothe me.
Shaking my head, I stare at the floor. “So an unknown female stole Grace. I feel as though either Roxy or her ex had her stolen.” Sniffling, I am trying to help the only way I know how.
“Both are logical choices for who’s responsible.” Andrea paces the living room, then halts. “I’ll alert the Betas to check out Roxy’s place and the outlying abandoned buildings.”
Andrea immediately starts calling the Beta’s in charge of security. First, she sends a detail to protect Grace’s grandmother. The second group she sends to search the buildings we named earlier. I feel better listening to her taking charge of the search for Grace. Honestly, I can’t think straight about what may be happening.
“Okay, so the Betas are en route to their destinations and they spotted the Alphas heading towards the dark woods.” Andrea freezes mentioning the woods and stares at me.
“The forbidden forest? Why would they go there?” Closing the distance between Andrea and me, I grip my cousin’s hands, clasping them.
“It’s where Ethan senses her. Apparently, she bit him, making their bond the strongest of the three.” Biting her bottom lip, she turns away from me.
“It’s okay cuz. I haven’t had a chance to get to know Grace in that way. I want to take my time and build a foundation before the bond.” Smiling, I try to reassure my cousin that everything is okay.
Sympathetically, Andrea hugs me tightly, holding me to her. “They’ll find her cuz no worries. You said she bit Ethan?”
Nodding my head, I close my eyes. “Yeah, apparently it happened when Griffin was mating with her. He didn’t trust himself alone with her, so Ethan was with them.” The image that floats through my mind makes my cock pulse to life. The thought of our mate strung out between my two alphas is hot as hell.
The snapping of fingers pulls me out of my thoughts and back to the present. Just before Andrea has the chance to say anything to me, her phone rings and her face pales. Wide eyed, she stares at me then walks into the kitchen. Following quickly behind her, I watch as she paces around the island. Her free hand runs down her face slowly. Huffing out a breath, she nods her head.
“Thanks Jared, I’ll tell Barrett.”
My blood feels like ice water in my veins as I stare at Andrea’s quivering lips. The veins in her eyes become visible as tears well up at the edge of her eyelids. Quickly, I pull out a chair and she flops into it. “What’s happened?” Fear consumes me as a low whine escapes my lips.
Roughly she swipes at her eyes then stares up at me. “Conrad is severely injured, but he’ll make it.” She breaks eye contact with me and I feel my chest constrict.
“Gracie?”
Andrea can’t even make eye contact now.
“Andrea. Tell me please … I feel like I’m dying…” Another whine escapes my lips, and she cringes hearing it.
“They can’t move her. She’s torn to pieces…” Andrea bursts into tears and I fall to my knees.
My sobs wrack my body, and I feel like my heart is being torn out. Andrea wraps her arms around me and hugs me, sobbing as well. The door bell rings and Andrea breaks away and heads towards the front door. I can hear Brad talking to Andrea and he mentions bringing us to the others.
Wiping my eyes, I head towards the door and follow Andrea and Brad to the car that’s waiting out front. I climb into the back seat and pray to whatever God or Goddess is listening. All I want is for Grace and Conrad to be alright. I sit watching the scenery as the car drives at breakneck speed through the dirt roads. My mind drifts to all the things I could have done better for Grace.
“Barrett?”
Slowly, I turn away from my distraction of the scenery moving past us. “Yeah?”
“They’re gonna be okay…” Andrea’s tone betrays her.
“I hope so.” I know my cousin knows the odds are not in their favor at the moment. Her encouraging words are meant to improve my mood for when I see Grace and Conrad. Both are not in great shape. Sadly, Grace’s condition for a human is not one that they usually survive.
The car makes a right turn and stops at the edge of the pack lands. The yelling breaks me out of the daze I’m in and I throw the car door open and run toward the shouting.
