“Between blood loss and pain, don’t be shocked if she passes out.” Doc mentions not taking his eyes off my wound.
From what I can tell, we aren’t even halfway through the first claw mark, and I’m already feeling dizzy. “Gracie, look at me.” Conrad moves to kneel by my head. His hand caresses my cheek. “You don’t have to prove you’re tough. You survived being turned. Don’t fight to stay conscious. If you need to pass out, then do it.”
I get ready to say something and I see the Doc with a syringe in his hand. He stabs me with it and a warmth spreads over my body and my eyes become heavy.
“She should sleep through the rest of the stitches.” The doctor’s voice becomes muffled as my body feels very heavy. Eventually, I lose the battle and sleep overtakes me.
* * *
Sometime later I awaken, sandwiched between Ethan and Griffin, both of them with a hand on me somewhere. Raising my head, I see Conrad and Barrett in chairs waiting for me to wake up. Conrad sees me move and rushes over to the bedside.
“Want me to help you get out?” No sooner did the words leave his lips that Barrett was by his side, offering his assistance as well.
“As much as I love a good twin sandwich, I’m hungry and need to pee.” Understanding crosses Conrads’ features as he and Barrett work on untangling me from between my alphas.
When Conrad bends forward, I reach up and wrap my arms around his neck and pull at the stitches. He immediately reaches down and scoops my legs, and lifts me up. Barrett strips naked and slides in between Griffin and Ethan. Feeling him move, the guys reach out and hold on to him. For good measure, Conrad tosses Barrett my shirt to help confuse them.
Conrad sets me down gently and helps me slip on the new robe he must have bought. He raises a single finger to his lips and motions to the door. We tiptoe out of the room and head down the stairs to the main living area. I make a quick detour to the bathroom on the first floor before we resume our hunt for food. Walking into the kitchen, Ruby has my daughter in the high chair feeding her.
“Welcome back Grace. How do you feel?” Ruby smiles as she heads towards the oven and pulls out a whole roast.
“Starving.” My mouth is watering, smelling the fresh roast she pulled out of the broiler. The burn of my canines breaking through my gums accentuates my hunger. My wolf knows we need to eat to finish healing. I watch my fur rise on my forearms and my vision shifts as I watch Ruby slice up the meat.
“I can see that your wolf is close to the surface. It might actually do you some good to eat as your wolf. At least that way I can add some of the normal diet and it won’t make you uncomfortable.” Ruby reaches back into the fridge and pulls out a large piece of raw liver.
Glancing over at Conrad, he nods, agreeing with what his mother told me. Drawing in a fortifying breath, I drop the robe and shift to my wolf. The wounds over my ribs hurt, and it feels like the stitches are pulling some, but not horribly. Ruby hands a large metal bowl to Conrad, and he moves across the room with it.
“I know this isn’t dignified, but it’s easier for our wolves to eat chunks of meat in a bowl or off a flat surface.” He lowers the bowl in front of me and my instinct over takes reason.
Growling, I lunge for the bowl and start eating what they offered to me. I’m one huge growling mess anytime someone walks remotely close to my bowl. My surly temperament must have awakened the twins. They both appear in the doorway observing my food aggression. Ethan laughs as he snatches the second bowl from his mom. “I’ll give it to her.”
Ethan approaches and sits down close to me with the new bowl in hands. I can’t help the growl that escapes my lips. My wolf is resource guarding and I don’t know why. “Grace cut that shit out before I shift and force you to submit.”
Ethan’s challenge doesn’t go unnoticed by my wolf, and she’s angry. Without a second thought, I launch myself at him going on the attack. His massive black wolf explodes into existence and pins me to the ground almost immediately. Thrashing, I get a foothold on him and throw him off of me to get back on my feet.
Griffin’s wolf is the next to pin me. I know my wolf is what they call battle born, or created from a traumatic event. The Luna lessons say that a wolf like me can go crazy unless settled into its place in the pack. Griffin is a little more logical with his attack and gets me on my side and uses his teeth to hold my head and neck to the ground. I keep thrashing for several minutes, still snapping and growling, trying to get free.
“Why isn’t see submitting to him?” Ruby asks and I think I know why. He never forced me to submit when we mated after I was turned.
“Fuck…” Conrad says as I guess he heard me through the bond. “Griffin never forced her submission when they mated. Her wolf doesn’t recognize he’s a dominant.”
Barrett looks at Ethan. “Fix it!” He cries, pointing at Griffin and me.
Ethan doesn’t hesitate to knock Griffin off of me and take his place, holding me down. The deep growl that escapes his muzzle settles my wolf, and the fight slowly drains out of me. When I go lax under him, Ethan releases me and I roll to my feet and back to my bowl.
Laying down, I lower my head and eat slowly as my tail sways behind me. Conrad comes close and reaches towards my bowl. I merely watch him, then look over to Ethan, talking to Griffin. I know what’s wrong. I’m not deaf. Griffin needs to establish his dominance with me one way or another.

- My so-called life- Three Days Grace-
I fucked up…
In the history of my existence, this is my biggest fuckup to date. My lack of forethought has thrown our family group into a state of flux. Grace’s wolf doesn’t see mine as a dominant because I didn’t get her to submit when we forged our bond.
As much as I was ready to ask her about who she would marry publicly, I already know that answer. It’s Ethan. Now I need to figure out how to fix my monumental fuck up. I’m the lead Alpha. How the fuck did I miss something so important?
