“Hi Wolfie.” I whisper as I drop to my knees before him. Leaning forward, I wrap my arms around his neck and rest my head against his fur. Gently, a paw comes up and rests upon my hip as his head lowers. The weight and size of his wolfs head is incredible.

Pulling back slightly, I look up into his golden eyes. I can feel how content he is. There’s a peace and calm that’s moving between us. Tilting my head to the side, I expose the area he had bitten earlier. His wolf opens its massive jaws and gently places his canines over the bruised area. I remain still until he releases my neck.

Laughing softly, Conrad helps me to stand. “That was impressive sweetness. You accepted his duality like a pro.” Pride blooms deep in my chest, then the sense of impending doom.

Ethan growls deeply as he stares into the woods behind me.

“We need to move.”Without hesitation, Conrad scoops me up in his arms and takes off, running in the truck’s direction.

“Ethan!! Con, we have to go back!!” I scream, trying to wiggle out of his grip.

“We can’t. It’s the rogue. Griff and Barrett, along with half the Betas, are closing in fast.” No sooner do the words fall from his lips do I see a dozen wolves lead by a large black one go running through the woods in Ethan’s direction.

Chapter 21

Conrad

~Tears don’t Fall - Bullet for my Valentine

Staying in contact with my brothers as I drag Grace off is virtually impossible. Griff says the one thing that causes the hair on the back of my neck to rise. Call Ambrose let him know we’re chasing the rogue onto Jamerson pack lands.

I hit Ambrose’s number in as fast as I can as I maneuver the truck back onto the main road. “Alpha Conrad, to what do I owe the pleasure?” I don’t miss Ambrose’s sarcasm.

Glancing over at Grace briefly, I refocus on the task at hand. “Griffin asked me to call you to let you know there’s a possibility that they may cross onto your lands. There’s a rogue Alpha that is after our mate. He came for her while she was out with Ethan.”

Dead silence is the only thing I hear for several moments. “Your mate, you say … I’ll send my Betas to the border to assist. Mates are sacred.” With that, Ambrose disconnects the call.

The conversation went far better than I had expected happening. Grace borderline in tears as she stares out the window. “Sweetness, they’ll be alright, I promise.” My heart is breaking for my mate, watching how distraught she is over the almost attack.

Sniffling, she nods and returns to watching the scenery change as we head towards my mother’s house. Seeing her daughter should help Grace feel better. Using the pack bond, I reach out to Andrea to get her to mom’s house to help lift my girl’s spirits. Mom’s house comes into view and Grace perks up and tilts her head to the side.

“Where are we, Con?” Furrowing her brows, she glances from the house to me.

“Thought you would like to retrieve Ashina and hang out with Andrea and mom.” Smiling, I watch several emotions flicker over my mate’s features.

Clapping her hands, she bounces on the seat. “Girl’s night?” Her eyes light up brilliantly as she beams at me.

“If that’s what you want, your wish is my command.” My heart soars as Grace leans over the center console to kiss me firmly on the lips.

I swear the kiss goes straight to my cock, and it hardens immediately in my jeans, straining against the material. Grumbling happily as I deepen the kiss, swallowing Grace’s moans, I want to do nothing more than drag her over the console and fuck her right here and now. A rapping comes to the driver’s side glass and I instantly turn and growl, baring my canines.

Andrea smirks, looking at me. “Settle Alpha, I’ve come to steal my bestie from your clutches.”

Andrea is seriously playing with fire if she thinks I’m gonna let Grace out of my sight while we have two threats. “I’ll stay in the kitchen. There’s too many…” Pausing, I look back as Grace slides free from the truck. “Threats.”

Andrea nods, then drags Grace into the house arm in arm, and I don’t know if this was my most brilliant plan or worst decision ever. Following behind the girls, I get assaulted by the smell of cookies and cakes from within the house. Mom’s been on a baking spree, and that’s a telltale sign that she’s stressed.

“Conrad Murphy, get in here and wash your hands before you have any of the cookies.”

Cringing from Mom’s tone, I silently obey ducking into the closest bathroom to wash up. Stepping out a gray and white pup goes scampering past me at a breakneck speed. “Is that Ashina?” My eyes never leave the pup as she slides across the tiles and rolls when she hits the carpet.

“It is … It never gets old watching a pup get its paws under it.”

Mom’s tone is warm and holds that dreamy quality, as if she’s stuck in a memory. “Thinking about when we were little mom?” Leaning on the counter, I reach out and take mom’s free hand and hold it gently.

Mom sighs as she watches Ashina play on the carpet. “I miss the sound of paws on the tiles. The sound of a baby crying needing me.” Her eyes don’t leave Ashina. “I got to have that again today and it brought me so much joy, Conrad.”

Grace’s laughter makes me look away from my mother and all I see is Grace chasing Andrea around the couch. Both girls are laughing hysterically as they run in circles until Grace tackles Andrea to the couch and tickles her.
