“I’m an Omega.” He grins, and a knowing smile crosses Grace’s lips. I want to believe she knew deep down what he was.
“No offence Cutie. But, with as gender fluid as you are and as fierce as your style is, I kinda had a feeling.” Grace says, then slides off the bed and grabs her phone. She furiously swipes through apps and offers the phone to Barrett. “My character Jayce is just like you.” Barrett smiles, reading whatever is on the screen, then looks wide eyed at Grace.
“I read this series! I love how you depicted the relationship between the guys. Very spot on.” A very cheeky Barrett bumps shoulders with Grace, who is blushing furiously.
“What are you two talking about?” Ethan’s wonderful temperament shines through yet again.
Laughing, Barrett pulls out his phone and shoves it in Ethan’s face. “I know a certain series that happens to have been written by our mate inspired a very dominant Alpha.”
Ethan stares at the screen, then takes the phone and shoves it in my face. I’ll be damned. The same series that Barrett has read cover to cover was written by our mate. It explains why now she has no problem resting her hand on my wolf’s pelt and isn’t flipping out over it.
Perhaps Fenrir has finally smiled upon us.
Chapter 18
Grace
~Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd~
I catch the guys up on basically the last twenty years of my life after Barrett fan-boyed over my series. Yawning, I slowly lay back down and turn into the big spoon, keeping my daughter between Griffin’s wolf and me. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be this close to reliving a scene in my novel.
Sleep takes me quickly and, to be perfectly honest, it’s probably the most restful sleep I have had in a very long time. Morning comes way too soon and awkwardly I wake up with my head on Griffin’s bare human chest with my daughter sleeping in between us.
Curiosity is a bitch when I wonder at what point did the two of them shift back. Ashina is in a diaper so I can only assume that Griffin dressed her when she shifted and himself as well. I kinda wanna sneak a peek and see if he’s naked under the blanket. Glancing up, I can see his eyes are still closed, so ever so delicately, I lift the sheet. Just as my eyes focus, he shifts slightly. “Find something interesting?” The bass of his voice reverberates through his chest.
Startled, I pull back and away as I try to contain my blushing. “No. I was rudely interrupted.”
“Really now?” He rolls onto his side to face me. His muscles are defined along his chest and down his stomach. My eyes trace the lines on the sides of his stomach till they disappear under the sheet.
“Yes, first you climb into bed with me and then appear here half or completely naked in my bed.” My cheshire cat grin is on point until he laughs.
“Your bed? Are you sure about that?”
“Yes, my bed. I claimed it as mine.”
Griffin slides out of the bed after our exchange and, much to my dismay, he has on a pair of barely there sport briefs. They leave very little to the imagination and damn, am I impressed by what I can make out. The prominent outline of his ridged cock stretches up and I can tell it is barely restrained by the elastic. He digs through the first draw he comes to and pulls out sweatpants and then a tee-shirt. Damn, this is his room.
“So, where am I supposed to sleep since you claimed my bed as yours?” He leans against the wall, an arrogant smirk pasted on his lips.
Getting up slowly, I gather my sleeping daughter in my arms and start heading to the door. “I guess I’ll pick another room to sleep in, then.” Glancing over my shoulder at his rumpled bed, then back to him. “After all, this one has fur all over it.” I fake sneeze, playing it up as I prepare to walk past him.
“No!” An inhuman growl escapes his lips as the flat of his palm impacts the wooden doorframe.
“What do you mean, no? I’m not a wolf, nor am I part of your pack.” Tilting my head up, I refuse to let another male bully me into submission. Deep down, the thrill of fear races up my spine, giving me a chill.
“You’re our mate. You are the next Luna. What do you mean you’re not pack?” Griffin’s tone elevates with every syllable and wakes up Ashina. She shreds through the diaper and onesie she was wearing. Her pup is growling at Griffin, trying to defend me.
Stroking the fur on my daughter’s back, I shake my head. “Great job Griff. You pissed off the baby.” Shoving past him, I walk down the hall, following my nose towards the bacon I smell cooking.
“Morning sweetness!” Conrad is extremely enthusiastic as he waves a coffee mug in my direction.
“Mornin Con.” A beaming smile crosses his lips as he fixes my coffee for me. I set Ashina on the floor to let her pup explore.
“I wasn’t done talking to you, baby girl.” Griff spins my chair to face him and I tilt my head to the side, looking up at him.
Conrad sets the coffee next to me and I grab it to take a much needed sip of the life-sustaining fluid. “The conversation was over the minute you raised your voice.” Without warning, I stand up, making him back up. “If … I am your mate…” My eyes seek each male in the room. “I thought a mate was to be coveted, cherished and protected. Not bullied, yelled at and made to feel unwelcome.” As much as maintaining eye contact with Griff scared me, especially when the gold blazed to life; I refuse to set the precedent of him being allowed to bulldog me however he wants.
Griffin looks shocked, and the room falls silent to the point you could hear a pin drop. “Mates are the beginning and end of all things.” Conrad says from the other side of the kitchen island.
