“Gracie killed a deer and left us some per tradition.” I say smugly.

The cracking of a branch makes me turn my attention to the path before us. Andrea is leading Gracie and her baby towards us. I swear my heart stops when I catch the child’s scent. It’s all wolf. She has a pup on her back and doesn’t know it.

“Fuck!” That means her crazy ex is a rogue Alpha. On the bright side of it all, she would survive turning when one of us bites and claims her. She already shares blood with her pup so her body won’t reject the bite.

“Barrett, go be a good Omega and take a treat from our mate’s hand.” The command behind Griffin’s tone makes Barrett wobble slightly.

That sexy Omega of ours puts on one hell of a show for Gracie, and she allows him within two feet of her. His whining and crawling routine works miracles on her, and she relaxes around our beasts. What seems like a second thought, she tosses the remaining meat to Griffin and me and we eat it immediately, like the good mates we are.

We watch Grace and Andrea return to the house, then pad off into the underbrush, returning to our clothing stash. Shifting back, I watch Griffin fight himself, wanting to return to the cabin. “Come on, big guy, we can’t expect her to feel drawn to us yet.”

“She seems attached to Barrett already.” Griffin’s voice is practically a growl and barely human from jealousy.

“I’m an Omega. I don’t count!” Barrett chimes in just in time. Shaking his head, Griffin walks off alone. I’m guessing to find wayward brother number three. “What’s eating him?” Barrett snuggles into my side, clinging to me, sensing my stress levels.

“Easy. He didn’t believe us. Or honestly, didn’t want to believe us because he thought she would never come back.” Shrugging my shoulders, I honestly don’t have a bloody clue what’s going on in Griffin’s mind. Hell, don’t even get me started on Ethan. He’s a fucking mess with a capital M.

Nodding along while he gets dressed, Barrett is lost in his thoughts, until his phone pings. Several texts arrive in rapid succession. “Oh shit! Andrea wants me to join her and Grace for dinner and dancing tonight. She’s trying to set me up with Grace!” Our little Omega just went pale as a ghost and nervous sweat adorns his brow.

Laughing, I slap him on the back and lead him back home. “Well, let’s get you cleaned up and dressed appropriately for a first date. Make sure you snuggle close so your Alphas get to fuck you smelling like her.” Barrett whines and my cock hardens, thinking about how I want to pound into him when he gets home later.

“I see something that needs attention Alpha…” Barrett’s tone drops, and it hits that breathless almost whine that makes my balls tighten. He palms my cock through my jeans and I swear I feel like a randy teenager.

“Then be a good Omega and take care of your Alpha.” Reaching up, I thread my fingers through his hair and rest them on the back of his neck. He drops to his knees and unzips my pants, dropping them to the ground. He dives in like a starving man, sucking my cock to the back of his throat till my knot touches his lips. Gasping, I reach out with my free hand and hold on to the nearby tree to steady myself.

Closing my eyes, I focus on his hot wet mouth and his skilled tongue working my length. My mind wanders to thinking about Grace being in his place, kneeling before me, sucking my cock deep into the back of her throat. No sooner did that thought cross my mind than I came harder than I have in a very long time. Fucking Barrett grips my knot, crushing it in his hand, making my orgasm hit harder. My legs damn near buckle. If it wasn’t for my grip on the tree, I would have fallen.

Gasping, I suck in a ragged breath, trying to regain control of my body. “Good boy Barrett.” I bend down, kissing his forehead and tuck myself back into my pants. “Let’s get you ready for your non-date date.” I help him stand up and we walk back in relative silence.

We enter the house and Ethan’s eyes dilate as he stares at me, then back over at Barrett. “What’s got you riled up, Con?” Ethan’s eyes are all wolf as he stares at me. His tentative grip on his control is slipping.

“Barrett has a date with Grace tonight. Andrea will be there with them.” Watching him closely, I can see his right eye twitch. The twitch is never a good thing.

“A date? With our mate?” His voice is a constant growl as he tries to form his words.

“Yes, a date. Andrea is setting them up. Let’s face it, he’s the calmest and least threatening out of the four of us.” Ethan nods slowly, his eyes not leaving me.

“I’m having a rough time dealing with her return.” Ethan admitting to what’s bothering him is huge for him.

Stepping away from Barrett, I get closer to Ethan and draw in a slow breath, trying to plan what I want to say next. “We can shift and remain in the woods nearby in case they need us. Or we can get dressed and sit at the bar and observe the date?” The muscles in Ethan’s shoulders bunch, then relax.

“I would feel better being close by, just in case.” He grumbles before heading down the hallway.

Staring after the most volatile of us, all I can do is shake my head. He can make or break this whole date tonight. Gods, I hope he doesn’t fuck it up on all of us. Griffin is in his own self-imposed exile. He doesn’t feel he deserves a mate. Ethan is damn near insane. He was hit harder by the no mate thing than the rest of us. The female he loved was mated to another, and it broke his little black heart.

Me, I kinda resigned myself to the idea that I’ll be lost to my wolf one of these winters. Unless we can convince Grace that she can love the four of us.

Fuck! What am I saying? Humans don’t think like we do.

We are fucked and not in the good sense.

Chapter 11

Ethan

~Within You - David Bowie~

Insanity is defined by doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. My wolf is tearing me apart inside. Day after day, he wants to shred my insides to pieces, all because our mate doesn’t even know our name. Several dozen times I went to the town that Grace’s parents moved her to and watched her from a distance. Why we never approached her, I’ll never know. But we didn’t have the balls to approach her, for whatever reason.
