“He hurt you,” Hunter snarled. I could tell his bear was close to the surface, but I wasn’t scared. I knew with absolute certainty Hunter would rather die than hurt me.

“He’s in the past,” I said firmly. “He doesn’t matter.”

“You’re mine, Sage. I swear to Gods you’re mine.” Hunter made sure I was looking him in the eyes.

“I’m yours,” I said simply.

I was his because I chose him. I didn’t have the certainty of my nose to tell me. But I didn’t need it. Hunter was everything I ever wanted, and I would not let him go. Not for anyone.

I yawned, and Hunter immediately stood up with me in his arm, “You’re tired. I should get you to bed.”

I actually was tired. I’d actually been getting tired a lot lately. So I didn’t argue. Hunter climbed up the stairs, took me to his room, and gently lay me down. “Rest. I’ll go tidy up, and I’ll be right back.”

I yawned and nodded, closing my eyes as he stood. I must have dozed off because Hunter woke me up, shaking me gently.

“Hi,” I whispered, yawning.

“I made you a sandwich,” Hunter said, putting a plate on my lap.

“You didn’t have to,” I said, even as I picked up the sandwich and took a bite.

Hunter pulled me so that I was leaning against his chest. “I have a question about something you said earlier.”

I nodded. “I’d be surprised if you didn’t.”

“You said you didn’t know if you could,” Hunter said.

I put the half-eaten sandwich down on the plate and wiped my mouth. “Yeah?” I didn’t have to ask him what he meant.

“Was he the one that made you think that?” Hunter asked.

I bobbed my head, and suddenly the sandwich felt like lead in my stomach.

“Well, it just confirms how much of a lowlife he is because he lied. I’m not surprised,” Hunter said, “I have something to tell you.” He grabbed the plate and put it to one side, then turned me so that I was facing him.

I tried to look away, but he wouldn’t let me.

“Baby, look at me, please,” Hunter's voice was soft.

I wrapped my arms around myself as I looked up at him. “Sage baby, you’re pregnant.”

My mouth fell open, but no sound came out. “What?” I knew my voice was shaky, and my hand went to my stomach. I couldn’t be… could I?

“Are you sure?” I whispered.

“Pretty positive,” he replied. “How do you feel about that?”

How did I feel? It felt like my insides were vibrating. “We’re going to have a baby,” I whispered.

“We are,” Hunter confirmed. His hand covered mine on my stomach.

“I’m so happy,” I whispered. “But I’m also afraid.”

Hunter’s placed a sweet kiss on my lips. “You don’t have to be afraid, my love. I’m here. I’ve got you. You and our little one.”
