She grunts with displeasure as I take her to my car. The truth is, we don’t own everything, although we do own a lot of businesses but most people in these places know exactly who we are. They may not know us by face, but they know better than to fuck with a De Luca. We’ve always been feared, but Domenic and his need for vengeance made the headlines and only increased the fear.
Opening my car door, I place Kat in the front seat and fasten her seatbelt, “Don’t try anything stupid.”
I close the door, walk to the other side, and get in. Taking a deep breath, I pause momentarily as I take in the last several hours. Her leaving. Not being able to find her and then nearly catching her being raped. There’s something about nearly losing someone that makes you realize the depth of your feelings for them. I knew I loved her but this is more than that. For the last several hours it was like a part of me had been cut from my chest.
She sits with her body as close to the door as it can get like she might jump out at any moment. I try to tell myself she’s safe and that’s the only thing that matters right now.
Glancing at me quickly, her eyes radiate pain. I fucking hate it even though I did nothing wrong. I start my car and take off back to my house.
“I hate you, Damian. I’ll never forgive you for what you’ve done to me.”
I swallow down the hurt in that statement as I remind myself, she doesn’t have a fucking clue how wrong she is about me.
We drive in silence, with the radio playing in the background.
Kat stares out the window, effectively shutting me out. I let her enjoy the quiet now because she will listen to me when we get home, even if I have to tie her up and gag her to accomplish it.
When I pull into the driveway, I glance at her and notice the tears falling down her cheeks. I don’t like it one bit.
I help her out of the car and wrap my arm around her waist as we walk up to the house. Stefan opens the door, “Let me know if you need anything else tonight, Boss.”
I nod, “Thank you.”
We go to the expansive living room, and I tell her, “Sit.”
She throws her body into a large chair like a teenager that is pissed off because they got grounded for missing curfew.
“Listen to me, Kitty Kat. If Angelica is actually pregnant there’s zero chance, it’s mine. Zero.”
Her eyes lift to mine, “She said it was and that you’d marry her because you always do the right thing.”
I chuckle, “Kitty Kat, I would never marry that bitch. There are awful people in our world. They want what we have. They’ll do anything to destroy us.”
I kneel in front of her, “Angel, the only woman that will ever have my children is you.”
Her gaze is focused on the arm of the chair, “Our worlds are so different. I don’t know how to make this work. How many women will do this?”
Placing my hands on her legs, I tell her honestly, “I don’t know. It shouldn’t matter. Have faith in me. I am telling you, nobody is pregnant with my child. There is no woman I want other than you.”
She blows out a long breath, “I’m sorry. I just thought-”
I arch an eyebrow, “I know exactly what you thought but you were wrong. You should have talked to me. I’ll always be honest with you. I have never fucking touched her. There is no chance that she’s carrying my child. You should have asked me. Instead, you put yourself in grave danger. For that, you will be punished. You are never permitted to let another man touch what’s mine.”
I gently stroke her bare abdomen, her skin is warm to my touch, “I thought I lost you. I can’t lose you.”
She blinks back tears as she averts her gaze to the ceiling.
“When I left you a note, that was me ending things with you, Damian.
Kat folds her arms over her chest again, “We were broken up, Damian. I didn’t cheat on you. While I was alert that man didn’t even touch me. I told him he couldn’t.”
I nod, “Kitty Kat, you’re mine. That will never change. You can leave a note, send a text, tell me to my face. It doesn’t matter. You’re still mine.”
She covers her face with her small hand as more tears fall from her eyes.
“Shhh Angel, don’t cry. You’re killing me. I fucking hate it when you cry.”
Pulling her onto the floor with me, I wrap her in my arms, “In the future, trust me. I’ll never betray you, Kitty Kat. Fucking never. You are everything I want.”
