Every time I found something more out about him, it only increased my desire for him. From Ava’s reaction, I wasn’t the only one in this city craving a piece of the man.
“Plus he’s loaded. He’s a millionaire who owns everything.”
I sat back, giving up on the remainder of my food and taking a sip of my wine. “He has gorgeous blue eyes and a voice that could make you come just from hearing it.”
Her mouth dropped. “Fuck, you really did see him. You got close enough to talk to him?” A devious smile formed. “Did you come? Or did you masturbate to the memory of him when you got home?”
My cheeks grew warm.
“Holy shit, you did!”
“Ava!” I said in a hush, trying to quiet her down.
“I don’t blame you. I would have done the same thing.” She was laughing hard, and I really wanted to change the subject. I glanced around, knowing she’d been loud enough for the others in the small restaurant to hear us. We were next to the bar and there were only men close by. One met my eyes, giving me a smirk, and I looked away quickly. Another in the corner had his head tilted my way. Even though he had his hood drawn, I could feel the heaviness of his gaze.
Shrinking down in my seat, I got Ava talking about the bar where she worked, glad to have the conversation of me touching myself to thoughts of Greyson Tides over. Not only was my blush fading too slowly, but he was back on my mind again and I had a feeling I’d be letting my fingers wander when I got home.
Chapter Nine
GREYSON
After I left Riley on the elevator, I greeted Sherry quickly and locked myself in my office, resting against the door as I tried to control the whirlwind of uncontrollable emotions going through me. She’d had been right there, daring to step into my elevator. So close that I couldn’t resist touching. And she’d wanted it. Every sign she gave me was a welcoming one. Her lips had parted, and it had taken every ounce of control not to kiss her, to push her into that wall and fuck her. Touching her had been a mistake, one that had given me a taste of her I didn’t think I could shake. I couldn’t stop thinking about the soft skin of her leg that led to the curve of her ass, bare with the edge of her thong teasing me.
This game was getting dangerous, and once again, I questioned if I should stop. I was in too deep on so many levels. When she’d told me she loved the gift I’d given her, my heart had leaped, erasing the disappointment I’d had the day I’d watched her cry over it. I didn’t like my reaction to her admission, how uncontrollable it had been, how good it had felt at the time.
Running my hand through my hair, I strode across the office, dropping my coat. I had a choice. I could call this game off and send her packing. Fire her and give her no ability to find work in the city, forcing her to run back to her brother. Or I could continue this game, even with the mounting craving I had for her. I knew I would have her, that I would feel the softness of the rest of her body. I just didn’t know if I’d be able to destroy her like I planned or if I’d be able to do anything but crave her more.
The ring of my phone forced my thoughts from her.
“Talk,” I answered, seeing that it was Alec.
Alec was the man I used whenever I needed eyes outside the city. He never failed to find information that was buried to keep people like me from seeing it.
“Boss, I dug around again. No boyfriend for over a year. Before that, there was some guy who worked at a local bar, but her brother ran him off. Not up to Mason’s standards for his sister.”
“Are you sure?” I had given Alec a call after calming down the prior night. It bothered me that Riley had said she’d just gotten out of a relationship. My sources had found no sign of that. As a precaution, I had Alec run through his sources.
“Certain. I do have information you might find interesting, though. I was going to fill you in last night, but I wanted to check one more contact first.”
“Go ahead.”
“Brinks is losing his shit. Seems he didn’t know his sister was leaving.”
I sat up straight. He hadn’t known. I’d initially thought that he’d sent her here to get to me, but after my first encounter with her, I realized that wasn’t the case. She had no idea who I was. Finding out Mason didn’t know she was here left me curious. Was she running from him?
“That’s an interesting twist. Any idea why?”
“No. But he’s tearing the town up hunting for her. And she’s not the only one he’s hunting. I think one of his men turned on him.”
That was news. No one turned on Mason Brinks. Just like no one turned on me. Anyone who dared didn’t live to see life outside our worlds.
“Who?”
“One of his henchmen, Clint Randall. Relatively new, so I’m not familiar with him.”
“Any idea what he did?”
“No, that’s the strange thing. Mason’s keeping it under wraps. He’s got his closest men hunting for this guy while he and Tyson are hunting for Riley.”
