“You’re asking so many questions, cuore mio.” He tsked, shaking his head at me.
“And you’re avoiding the most important ones.”
“Am I?” He checked the time on his wristwatch. “Oh, would you look at that? I’m going to have to leave so I won’t be late for work.”
Milo leaned down, trying to kiss me, but once again, I turned my head.
He chuckled. “Still no kiss? Alright. I’ll see you later, my love.”
“I’m not your love if you won’t even talk to me.”
I watched as he walked toward the exit doors, backward so he could continue to look at me. “I am talking to you.”
“Smart ass.”
He winked at me, then turned around and waved me goodbye. “I love you.”
Michael dropped me off at the restaurant at six, which was earlier than I’d expected. Usually, Milo and I didn’t dine out until eight.
It was slowly getting dark outside, which brought out the pink lights of the restaurant. I couldn’t help but shake my head at the sight because the pink lights were definitely Milo’s doing. As was the lack of people around.
Not a single soul entered or exited the restaurant, and if I looked in through the window, I couldn’t see anyone either. It was dark inside, so if it wasn’t for the pink lights outside, I would’ve assumed the restaurant was closed.
Okay, and I suppose Michael wouldn’t have dropped me off right in front of the building if I was supposed to be elsewhere.
I pulled out my phone to send Milo a message to ask if he was already inside when I read his text instead.
Milo: Running a bit late. Go on in without me.
Sighing, I put my phone back into my purse and headed over to the entrance. As I approached the door, an employee opened it for me. Of course Milo made sure I wasn’t going to open the door myself even if he was running late.
“Good evening, Miss Adams,” the woman who opened the door for me said. To my surprise, she didn’t lead me to a table or at least tell me where to go. All she did was hand me a pink envelope and walk away.
I opened the envelope, unsure of what I was supposed to expect.
Meet me on the roof
On the roof? I sure hoped this restaurant had a rooftop floor because the second I had to climb through a window or up a ladder, I was out of here.
Pushing the envelope into my purse, I went over to the stairs to make my way up, only to stop in my tracks when I saw pink rose petals and candles decorating the stairs, lighting the way up.
At the top of the stairs, I found another pink envelope lying on a table. I grabbed it, opened it, and read another note.
Five reasons why I fell in love with you that you never noticed:
- Because of that little smile on your face when you talk about something you adore
- Because of the way you roll your eyes at the TV when people do something embarrassing
- Because of the way your eyes light up every time you see something pink
- Because of that little happy dance you do every morning after the first bite of a good breakfast
- Because of the sigh that escapes you each time I say something stupid
I laughed at the last reason.
By now, I finally caught up on what this was all about; however, there was a part inside of my head that told me not to get my hopes up. If I expected what I was expecting, there was a lot of room for disappointment.
