Mama: You looked amazing in that dress. Good job putting that woman in her place. You’re the first lady of OC. Don’t let them play with you.

Daddy: You made me proud, sweetheart!

Tammy may not have liked what I said, but the people who mattered the most to me loved it. That was all that mattered.

“Tammy just texted that the movers are headed to your old place. Let’s get changed and meet them there,” I suggested as we entered our home.

“What time is your brother bringing Azaria?”

“Not until later. We should have plenty of time to get what we need.”

“Okay.”

We quickly changed into more comfortable clothing and headed to our destination.

“What do you plan to do with the things you aren’t bringing?”

“Probably give them to charity.”

“I can have Tammy?—”

She shook her head as she interrupted me. “Not a chance. I don’t want her doing shit for me.”

“Baby—”

“Nope, don’t try to convince me either. She works for you, not me. Keep her outta my business and away from me if possible.”

“I’ll admit she didn’t make a good first or second impression. Things have been a little crazy. Maybe the third time will be a charm.”

“I’ll find a few shelters on my own. I don’t need her help, but thanks for offering.”

I chuckled at how quickly Desire shut down the idea of Tammy helping her. Their relationship wasn’t off to a good start, but hopefully, it would improve. Tammy’s personality could come off as aggressive to many, but I thought it was beneficial most of the time in her line of work.

“Honestly,” she continued a few seconds later. “We probably need to reschedule the movers to give me time to research. I don’t need help packing the clothing that I plan to keep.”

“But the movers are already there, baby.”

“And there’s nothing for them to do if they aren’t moving the furniture. What’s the rush anyway? I still have two months on my lease.”

Desire had a point, so I called Tammy to have her cancel the movers.

“What, Aziel?” she answered.

“Calm all that attitude down. I need you to cancel the movers. Desire?—”

“Are you kidding me? We paid them extra to do this on a Sunday.”

“We didn’t pay them anything. They can keep the money, but let them know we’ll reach out soon.”

“This is very unprofessional, but whatever. When can we talk about today?”

“As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing to talk about. Thanks for your help at the last minute. I’ll see you at the office tomorrow.”

I ended the call before Tammy could say anything else. My eyes were on the road, but I could feel Desire’s eyes on me.

“What’s the problem, baby? Your eyes are burning a hole in the side of my head.”

“I’ve never been anyone’s boss, but I wouldn’t let my employees talk to me like that.”
