“Let’s go. She’s probably already in the barn with her other pets.” Gray said it like he suddenly minded when we all knew he’d always liked how much care B gave the animals.
I grunted. “It was my idea. Let me hold it.”
Owen scowled at me. “Fuck off. It came to me.”
From the porch, Jamison whistled. “Well, I’ll be. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. You three look about as desperate as that puppy. Who knew all it would take to knock you on your asses was a quirky little cow lover?”
I took the puppy from Owen while he was glaring at Jamison and headed towards her house, thinking maybe I’d catch her at home during one of her pitstops. The little runt wiggled in my arms and stretched its head up to lick my chin. For a second, I considered turning around and taking it into the main house to keep for myself but I really wanted to convince B not to hate us.
I knocked on her door and heard a muffled shout from inside. “Bumble B? You okay?”
Gray stood next to me with his arms crossed. “Did she scream?”
Owen moved to my other side. “She screamed?”
Gray knocked on the door harder and shouted. “Open the door, Billie!”
Another second passed before B yanked open the door and glared up at Gray with fury shining in her eyes. “Don’t call me that!”
CHAPTER 13
Gray
My chest tightened at the sight of Billie. Her eyes were bloodshot and she looked fresh out of the shower in just an oversized T-shirt. Her legs and feet were bare, her toes curled over each other, as if she was trying to hide them. She glared up at me and I couldn’t help noticing the way her lips were still slightly swollen from the night before. Just thinking of why they were swollen had my dick swelling in my pants and I cursed it for not listening to my brain. Billie was off limits.
“You okay?” Owen winced when she turned her glare on him.
“I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be fine? Why are you here?” She crossed her arms under her breasts and the bottom of her shirt inched up her thighs. “You never come here, so why are you here now?”
“We should talk.” I hated myself as soon as the words were out of my mouth. I didn’t want to fucking talk. I wanted to run away and pretend like I couldn’t still feel her walls clamping down on my dick.
Thankfully, Billie hated me and thought the idea was stupid. “We should talk? Are you kidding? Get lost. We have nothing to talk about. You’re a non—”
I leaned in slightly, waiting for her to finish insulting me. I was twisted in the head because there was something I liked about having Billie rip me a new one.
“Whose puppy is that? Where did it come from? Why is it so thin?” Billie practically floated closer to Keaton and the puppy. “Whose puppy are you? Huh?”
I frowned at the puppy as it got sweet Billie by just existing. We’d never gotten sweet Billie. “He just showed up at the house this morning.”
She cut her eyes at me, silently suggesting I shut up. “Then he doesn’t belong to anyone?”
Keaton shook his head. “If he does, he shouldn’t. Poor thing hasn’t eaten in a while, going by how he looks.”
Billie took the puppy into her arms and cradled it against her chest. The damn dog burrowed into her tits and let out a happy sigh. Billie’s eyes practically turned into glowing hearts. She slowly backed into her house and then shut the door, closing us out. “I’m keeping him.”
I looked at my brothers and back at the door. “Did she really just take the dog and shut us out? What if we wanted the dog?”
Owen rolled his eyes at me. “We brought an animal within fifty feet of Dr. Dolittle in there. It was hers as soon as we saw it.”
From inside the house Billie shouted. “Go away now!”
I growled at the door. “Open the damn door and talk to us, Bumble B.”
The door cracked open and she stuck her middle finger out at me. “I’m never talking to you again, Gray, so you might as well screw off. Go away. We don’t want you here.”
“We?” I glared at my brothers. “She and the dog are already a we?”
Keaton just grinned. “Come on. We’ll talk to her later.”
