“What is it?” Vincent walks to the door and tries to open it, but still, it doesn’t open.

The walls begin to close in on me while Vincent keeps trying to open the door. “I’m afraid we can’t open this from inside.”

“What do you mean we can’t open it from inside?” I’m desperate, hoping this isn’t what I think it is. My voice is rising. “Do you know what it means? It means we’re stuck in here.”

My phone beeps. It’s a text message asking everyone to be calm and that it appeared to be a false alarm.

I collapse on one of the boxes. My legs can’t hold me up as relief floods through me. “There was no fire. It was a false alarm.”

Vincent runs a hand through his hair and sighs. “How did the alarm go off?”

I shrug. “I don’t know. Someone must have triggered it. We need to find a way out of here.” I need to call Naomi and make sure she’s okay, then I’ll ask her to bring one of the security men to unlock the door.

I dial her number. It rings three times before she finally answers. “Oh my God, Isa. Are you okay?”

My relief doubles when I hear her voice. “Yes, I’m okay. I was so worried something might have happened to you.”

“Me too. I was able to get out of the building before the text came in. I can’t believe they ruined the charity event with a false alarm. At least we’d finished with the auction and I think we beat our goal.”

“That’s great.” In all the turbulence of the last few minutes, I hadn’t given a thought to the event and why we were all here.

“Where are you, Isa? I saw Vincent leave the hall after you left.” She lowers her voice. “This might be hard to believe but his friend—bodyguard, got me out of the hall.”

“Great. I’m with Vincent right now. We’re stuck in the…”

“Hello? Isa? Can you hear me?” Naomi calls from the phone. Call failed pops up on my screen. I try to dial Naomi’s number again and my phone freezes, then the screen goes black.

Oh, great! Another thing to add to the suckiness of the night.

Now I’m stuck in a storage room with no phone, and Vincent. Tonight can’t possibly get any worse, can it?

“Do you have a phone on you?” I ask Vincent. He’s staring at me in the small room like he couldn’t care any less we’re stuck in a storage room.

“I don’t carry my phone around. I think Luca has it.”

A demented smile plays on my lips. He’s got to be kidding. “Well, go get it from him.”

“How? I can’t exactly walk through walls.”

“So why did you bother telling me your phone was with Luca?” I didn’t intend to yell at him, but I might as well get all my anger out. I’m fucking exasperated. “Are we going to spend the night in here?”

As much as I would love to collapse on my bed, it’s not spending the night in this uncomfortable room that bothers me and it’s definitely not the fact that my dog, Oreo will be sad when I don’t come home. Thankfully, I’d left out enough water and food in her plates before I left.

It’s the man I’ll be spending the night with that frightens me, and the darkness which doesn’t let me see if he’s looking at me and breathing as hard as I am.

Chapter Five

Vincent

I found a light switch that works so we’re not in darkness.

Isabella has been pacing the small room for the last hour. While she’s been busy struggling to accept our situation, I’ve been watching her. Her cream-colored dress is really beautiful on her, highlighting her curves and the shape of her ass.

Her nipples are poking the silk of the fabric, begging for my attention. I’m waiting for her to come to the understanding there’s nothing we can do but wait for someone to unlock the door and come to me for a little warmth.

And she does.

She finally stops pacing and starts in my direction. Reaching me, she plops down on one of the boxes and exhales loudly. “I give up. It’s obvious we’re not making it out of here tonight. I can’t believe I have to spend the night with you.”
