“We need to find her,” I say through gritted teeth, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. “Now.”
Dominic nods, his expression grim. “We'll split up and search the city. She can't have gone far.” He pulls his phone from his pocket and places a call to someone. “Dante, have there been any updates on finding Elio’s location?”
I don’t hear what Dante says, but Dominic says, “Alight.” He hangs up and looks at me. “He found something, a hideout by Ace Mine. We should go there and see if it leads us to Elio.”
“I'll coordinate with the rest of our men. We'll cover every inch of this goddamn city if we have to, until we find that asshole,” Marcus says, stepping forward.
Abramo hangs his head, clearly ashamed, as he should be because I’m close to ripping his head off. “I'll go back to the last place we saw her. Maybe I missed something.”
I take a deep breath, trying to push back the panic threatening to consume me as Luca enters the living room. “Thank God. Luca, you're coming with me. We'll start from where these two idiots lost her and work our way outwards.” I point at Abramo. “Check every CCTV you can find around the area.”
Both Nico and Abramo nod before they leave the room.
Jane enters next. She’s wearing black leather pants and a zipped leather jacket. “I’m coming too.”
Marcus snaps his head to her. “No, you’re not. It’s too risky.”
“And I have scores to settle with Elio. He killed my father, I’m not going to be a bystander in this fight,” Jane retorts. “You can’t stop me, Marcus. Give it up.”
Marcus heaves an exasperated sigh.
I’m racking my brain as I try to decipher what happened. “Isabella couldn’t have just left like that. Did you notice anything unusual before she left?”
“There was something,” Jane says. “A call. She seemed stunned, then she said she forgot her credit card and needed to go get it.”
Dominic shoves his hands in his pocket. “So, the call must’ve been from Elio. He must’ve threatened her with something.”
“Her grandma,” I reply. “He must’ve threatened to kill her grandma. We need to start searching for her right now.”
“Marcus, stay with Jane. I’ll ride with Vincent.” With a nod to me, Dominic and I head out to the car parked in the entrance of the mansion. “I’m driving,” Dominic says. “You’re not thinking clearly and I’m not in the mood to die today.”
I open the door to the passenger seat. “No one is dying today.”
We scout the city for the next couple of hours, driving from the shopping mall to the mines at the outskirts. Still no sign of Isabella or Elio.
My phone buzzes in my pocket. There’s a text from Nico, but something else catches my attention—a notification from Isabella’s phone. “She shared her location with me.”
Dominic pulls the car to a cub by the road. “Let me see.” He grabs my phone from me and scrolls through it. “Grove Diamond Mine. That’s her last location.”
“What do we do?”
Dominic tosses my phone to me and brings the car engine too life. “Call Marcus, tell him to bring the guns and the rest of the men to Grove Diamond. We’re taking this asshole down tonight.”
I do as he says. After I call Marcus, I glue my eyes to the tracker just in case there’s movement on Isabella’s end.
It takes one heart wrenching hour before we arrive at the Groove Diamond Mine. Dominic parks the car behind a hill near the entrance. More cars and S.U.V.’s park behind ours, car doors opening and footsteps lifting the dusty soil. I see a small town of tents set up around the entrance to the mine.
The smell of diesel hits my nose the second I step out the car. I glance down at my phone and it shows I’m in the same location as Isabella. “She’s got to be in one of those tents.”
Marcus, Jane, and Luca walk to us, handing each of us guns with silencers extra clips.
“It could be just the miners. They probably spend the nights here,” Luca says, strapping his holster to his chest and tucking one of his guns in it.
I shoot him a glare. “You’re more stupid than you look.”
“It’s oddly quiet, which means this place is currently not occupied by miners,” Marcus thinks for a moment. “I’m sure that asshole or his men are in there.”
“There’s only one way to find out,” Dominic says, cocking his gun and making his way to the tents. “Vincent. Jane. Keep an eye out for Isabella.”
