Marcus signals for me to wind it down and I do. He leans forward, resting his arms on the door. “I heard from Luca there was an attack at the charity event.”
That fucking snitch.
I turn off the engine. “Does he report every single thing I do to you and Dominic?”
“Only the things that are necessary.” He wipes the corner of his mouth. “You were locked in the storage room with that woman?”
“Her name is Isabella, and yes, we were locked in the storage room together.” I wonder if he’ll ask for the details of everything that happened in the storage room. I think I’d enjoy seeing the disgust on his face when I tell him.
He’s lost in thought for a while, tapping the door with his fingers. “Any idea how you got locked in?”
“No, it might have been an accident though.” I don’t tell him I find it suspicious someone locked us in on purpose at the same time there was a false fire alarm, or that I returned to the hotel to check the CCTVs only to find they’d all stopped working at the same time.
It doesn’t make any difference though, he’s Marcus and he’ll dig into it himself.
He nods. “That’s fine. You can leave.”
I roll my eyes and with a sardonic tone, I say, “Thank you for the permission to leave.”
Marcus moves away from the car and I roll up the window, the car roaring beneath me before I drive off.
Luca’s in front of the hospital building when I arrive. He’s too busy scrolling through his phone and smiling that he doesn’t see me walk to him and stand behind him.
“Scrolling through some booty pictures?”
He flinches, his hand reaching for the gun in his holster. For someone who gets so easily distracted, his reflexes are quick.
“Take your hand away from that gun, I’m not here to kill you.” I bite back a chuckle when his stunned eyes meet mine and he inhales deeply.
“For fuck’s sake, man. I could’ve have shot you.” His tucks his phone away in his front pocket and frowns at me. “What if I had?”
I pat his shoulder, a grin stretching my lips. “You’d be a dead man before you even cocked your gun, my man.”
“I can bet my balls, I wouldn’t.”
“Try me.” I peer around, then at him. “Where’s Isabella?”
His brows knit and he shrugs. “Don’t know. It’s not my job to look out for her just because you pinned her to a storage floor.” Luca laughs and I scowl at him.
“Where I pin her to is none of your business. Speak a word of it again and I’ll rip your tongue from your mouth.”
He raises his hand in defeat. “For someone whose former job was to save lives, you’re a pretty violent man.”
“I’m a Romano, don’t forget that.” I pat his shoulder and begin to walk into the building. Luca follows me. “About the thing I asked you for…”
“The security guards?”
“Yes.” After checking the CCTVs and finding nothing, I’d asked Luca to question the security guards, just in case they saw something or someone strange.
The expression on his face gives away the fact he wasn’t able to get anything from them. “They swear they didn’t see anyone. I think the door may have locked on its own.”
“Did the CCTVs stop working on their own, too? What about the fire alarm?” I have a feeling whoever locked us in there is responsible for the false alarm and glitch in CCTVs. Isabella was unfortunate to have ended up there with me, I know I was the target.
Luca shakes his head. “I’m also certain there was someone responsible for this and whoever it was will make a move on you again. We’ll have to wait until then.”
“Where’s the silver-haired one?” I ask. I keep my face blank, trying not to let on that I’ve missed her.
“Upstairs. Want to go see her?”
