Daniel glanced around the streets as theywalked up to Amy’s home, which he knew was her parents’ previoushouse. He knew she hadrented her grandparents’ place, as she’d been too attached to sellit. He understood that. They were part of her family, and shewanted to hold onto them as long as possible.
They walked down the small driveway, whichdidn’t have a car. Amy was often found walking everywhere, and onlyever drove the café’s van when she needed to. Most of her producewas sent to her.
He watched as she slid her key into thelock, and she stepped across the threshold. “You’re not a vampire, are you?” she asked.
Daniel laughed and leaned against thedoorframe. “I guess the real question is, do you want me to be?”
She burst out laughing as hestepped over thethreshold. “I’m sorry, that was so funny.”
He loved her laugh. It wasn’t fake nor didshe hold back. It was a full stomach laugh. “I don’t even know whyI find that so funny.”
“Was it because I dressed up as a vampirefor Halloween last year?”
Amy stopped laughing and thensighed. “I had completelyforgotten about that.”
“Martha told me I was too tan to be avampire, not that she was complaining.”
“I bet. When the sun is out, and the beachis clear, that’s whereyou will find Martha. You might have a secret admirer.” She raisedher brows a little higher as he took a step toward her.
She licked her lips and he couldn’t help but wonder if they weredry. Her mouth was tempting.
He closed the door, and now they werefinally alone together. Daniel had never crossed this boundary, andhe knew Amy didn’t get close to anyone.
“Dinner,” she said, but made no move toleave.
He stared at her, then he reached up and cupped her cheek, tilting her head back.
“Daniel?”
“I want to kiss you,” he said.
She didn’t say anything, but he knew Amy. Heknew there was a chance of rejection here, but he couldn’t resist,so he moved in slowly, waiting for her to put a brake on it. Amydidn’t move. She didn’t make a sound.
And then, she ran her hands up his body, touching his chest, and circling his neck. That was a sign for him to go, and heslammed his lips down on hers, kissing her hard. Amy moaned, melting against him, and he ran his hands down her ass, grippingthe fullness as he pulled her in close. He didn’t want to let hergo, and at the first touch of those lips, he knew he was addictedand didn’t want to stop kissing her.
Sliding his tongue across her lips, he heardher sudden intake of breath, and then he plundered into her mouth, deepening the kiss.
Daniel hadn’t come to her home in the hopeof having sex. He’d actually intended to eat dinner. Being in her home, with thescent of her surrounding him, he just couldn’t resist, and one kisswas not enough. It would never be enough for him. He had to havemore.
More kisses.
More everything.
They started out slow, and that suddenlychanged and he spun her around, pressing her up against thewall.
Amy let go of his neck, and at first hethought she was pushing him away, but then she gripped hisshirt and began to tugit open. All too soon, she had his shirt off. Not that Daniel putup much of a fight.
Daniel grabbed her shirt and began to tugit up and over her head, tossing it to the side. Then he ran his hands down her waist, going straight toward her jeans.
“Wait, hold on,” Amy said, and she nibbledher lip as she stared at him.
Daniel waited, looking into her eyes.
She gazed back at him, and he expected herto put the brakes on,but then she took his hand, and much to his surprise, she led himupstairs to her bedroom.
The curtains were open, and she let him goto move toward the window and close them.
Then, she spun around to face him, lipspressed together, and she tilted her head to the side just slightly, looking athim.
