There were several guys waiting aroundFlynn’s Café, so he knewhe wouldn’t be alone. Flynn’s Café wasn’t too far from the bar, andas he arrived, he saw a couple of cars parked outside.
“How long have they been in there?” Danielasked.
“Ten minutes,” Cyrus said.
He saw Hank and Louis were waiting.
At the sound of furniture crashing, Danielhad heard enough, so he made his way into the café. Cyrus hadalready given him a baseball bat.
He didn’t give a shit what kind of mess hewas about to walk into, no one threatened his woman and got awaywith it.
As he reached the door, he saw the dumb fucks hadn’t locked it,so they must have thought no one would disturb them. He couldunderstand that. Nearly everyone was at the fucking bar.
He stepped into the café, and saw Amyheld immobile. A largeguy stood behind her, holding her hands even as she fought him. There was blood trailing from her lip, and he saw it had beensplit. Anger consumed Daniel.
One glance around the café, and he saw threemen, four if he included the one holding Amy, and then the littleshit who got rejected.
“This café is closed,” the rejected bastardsaid.
“No, it’s not.”
Cyrus, Hank, and Louis were at his back, and they each hadtheir weapon of choice. The men looked larger than all of them, butDaniel didn’t give a shit. He’d seen harder and tougher-lookingmen. These assholes were nothing.
“I suggest you let the woman go.”
“Oh, I don’t think so. That woman is aboutto learn some manners, and it’s about time for a man to teach her where she’s goingwrong. If you want your precious little town to remain yours, you’ll leave. I’m going to have my fun, and then I’ll begone.”
“That’s my problem,” Danielsaid, moving closer, butone of the guards put a hand on his chest, attempting to stop him.“That there is my woman, and you’re not having any fucking fun withher.”
The rejected bastard sighed and then movedcloser toward him, clearly thinking because he had a few men withhim he could do whateverthe hell he wanted to.
He took a step toward Daniel and held out a checkbook. “How muchwill it cost me for you to fuck off?”
“You think you can buy me off?” Danielasked.
“Everyone has a price, and besides, a manlike you can have any pussy.”
He stared into the asshole’s eyes, and theson of a bitch truly believed he could simply write a check and Daniel would leave.Daniel started to laugh and looked at Cyrus, Hank, and Louis, whoall joined him in laughter, but it was fake, and he wasn’t going toplay nice. Then, he brought his head right down on the bastard’snose.
Before any of them could move, Daniel drewhis bat, slamming it into the back of the guy’s head who attempted to stophim.
Cyrus, Hank, and Louis went into action, and it didn’t take them long to have all three of the guardsunconscious on the floor. The only one awake was the one holdingAmy, who looked ready to run at a moment’s notice, and the rejected bastard, who cuppedhis nose as blood spurted out of it.
It was some of his best work. The uglybastard looked far prettier with a broken nose.
Daniel pointed his bat toward the shitholding Amy. “You’ve got two choices. Let her go, walk away, and wemightnot hurt you, or I amdefinitelygoing to hurt you.”
The guard let Amy go. “Look, I don’t wantany trouble. I’m paid to look the other way and keep my mouth shut.I didn’t want to fucking come to Lost Creek. You guys … are fuckingcrazy. I tried to tell them that problems become ghosts in thistown.” He kept mumblingabout what was going wrong and how he just wanted a nice, steadyjob.
Daniel had heard enough. “Leave.”
None of his men attacked the guard as heleft the café; clearlythe town’s reputation had preceded them.
Amy stepped away and Danielmoved toward her. He ran hisfingers down her arm. “You need to go into the kitchen while I dealwith this,” he said.
She looked toward the rejected fucker on thefloor, and then nodded her head.
He watched her go, the door to the kitchenclosing, and Daniel turned back toward the loser on the floor.
