Daniel folded his arms across his chest. Hewould have loved to be the one hurting Ray, as he knew it wasbecause that asshole helped cause Amy’s tears. No one made Amy cryand got away with it. Fucking no one.

Cyrus hit his brother again, and thenwaited.

“I’m going to tell Mom and Dad,” Ray said.

His brother chuckled. “Go ahead, all Ihave to do is tell them the truth, and then your ass will behomeless, so let’s start again. You were getting your dick sucked,and some guys approached you. Ray’s face was getting redder by thesecond. Daniel was wondering why the fuck they had trusted thisasshole with the security cameras. He didn’t even need to agree with his brother forDaniel to know the truth.

“They approached me, I swear. All they toldme was on the day of the fair, at exactly that time, I was to turnoff the cameras and they gave me a thousand bucks. That wasit.”

Cyrus looked away from him for just amoment, and then spun around, hitting him. He got three punches inbefore Ray fell to the floor and began to sob. Ray tried to getclose to his brother, but Cyrus stepped out of the way, lookingdown on his brother as if he was some kind of disgusting bug, andin all honesty, Daniel could relate.

This was why Ray was not one of them. Why hewould never be one of them. He was more interested in lining hisown pocket than protecting the town, and that made him useless toall of them.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“We’re going to need names,” Danielsaid.

“I don’t know who they were. Nonames were needed. I wasgiven a set of instructions, that was all.” Ray pressed his handsto his face and started to sob. “They said the chick from the caféneeded to pay. That was all they said.”

And Daniel looked at Cyrus, then Billy, and finally atGeorge, because they all knew, as did he, that the threat to Amywasn’t over.
