Amy pressed a hand to herchest.

“Oh, please, this is Lost Creek. Nothing badever happens here, and I doubt anything ever has. All people do isuse it as a way of bringing in tourists, and I guess keeping themin line.”

Martha tutted. “You weren’t around whenthings went bad, but I was. I know what it was like then, and Iknow the haven it is now. Trust me, you girls are safer for thisplace being controlled by The Reapers. Without them, we’d besitting ducks, and then you’d have a completely differentlife … both of youwould.”

Without another word, Martha walkedaway.

“Okay, that just gave me chills,” Penelopesaid. She rubbed at her arms. “Maybe she was right?”

“We better get back to work.”

“Babe, you’re the boss,” Penelope said.

“Exactly, and your boss is sayinglet’s get back towork.”

“August told everyone,” Amy said, later thatnight in bed.

Daniel laughed. “Yeah, I know. I had a lotof men shake my hand, and a lot of women warning me.”

Amy flicked her hair off her shoulder andmoved closer. “They did?”

“Didn’t you realize that, Amy Flynn, youare a well-liked andloved woman in this town?”

She opened her mouth and closed it. “I hadno idea.”

He smiled at her, reaching out, andtucking a stray curl behind her ear. “Well, you are, and the town wants to see youhappy.”

She placed her hand on his naked chest. OnMondays, he didn’t keep the bar open too late. In fact, Monday toThursday, the bar stayed open till eleven, and it was only on theweekends he opened late.

This was during the main summer season. Hechanged his hours based on the time of year. Around Halloween, hedid like the Halloween party festivities. Lost Creek loved tosplash out. The kids were able to go trick-or-treating, and then the adults got to playdress-up as well. It was a lot of fun, and he loved doingit.

“Penelope asked me today. Actually, shedidn’t ask me, more like told me.”

He ran his fingers down her naked back, going toward the curve of her ass. His reward was when she lifted up her leg, so she hadone leg over his hip. He couldn’t resist sliding his fingers downher full thigh, then traveling back up toward her ass. Her body wasirresistible.

“Does she disapprove?” he asked. He had afeeling Penelope would want Amy to be on the “I hate Lost Creek” bandwagon, with thehope of leaving some day.

“No, I don’t think she disapproved ofanything. I mean, she was nosy, as she always is. Wanted to know ifyou were good in bed.”

Daniel continued to look at her. Amysighed.

“She wanted to know how I would react if Ifound out you were a Reaper.”

He stayed perfectly still, just watchingAmy. Being a Reaper hetook seriously, and he waited for Amy to continue.

“And what else did Penelope say?” heasked.

“You’re not curious about the whole Reaperconversation?”

“I’m sure you’ll tell me when you’reready.”

She glanced down at his chest and didn’tlift her head for several seconds. He waited, wondering what wasgoing on in that mind of hers. He always wanted to know what shewas thinking andfeeling.

“I told her I didn’t care,” Amy said. “Thatit wouldn’t bother me if you were a Reaper or not.”

“It wouldn’t?”
