Once again, it’s not my business.

None of this is my business. Other than the money I have tied up in the club Hux started before he killed himself.

And with that thought, I nod when I see Damien.

He’s standing at a large table.

He points to it and shrugs his shoulder.

Now Damien and I never had any issues personally.

It all just became an us versus them situation.

I tell myself that doesn’t mean a thing now.

We’re here because of Heston’s death.

Julian and I make eye contact and we nod.

We all have to do this.

We have to sit at the table.

For the sake of Heston.

And for the sake of our business together.

I have lawyers who mostly handle all that shit. As far as I know or care, I’m a partner in a nightclub that makes a lot of money. I’ve heard rumors about other activities at said nightclub but I don’t care. What I do care about is making sure things are legal and the money flows my way.

I approach the table and before I can say a word to Damien, Aron pulls out a chair and leans on it.

“Well, look at this fucking crew we’ve got here,” he says. “This is going to be a shit storm.”

“Let’s just have a drink to our old friend,” I say.

“When was the last time you even talked to him, Ellis?”

To my right I see Devyn.

Wearing black sunglasses, holding a glass of what I know is top-shelf scotch.

That’s all he drinks.

Even when we were in college.

He’d hustle at poker and pool to scrounge up cash to buy expensive scotch.

He claimed by drinking expensive scotch it sent a message to the universe that he was destined to afford it without blinking.

“Can we sit and talk?” I offer.

“No need to worry about business,” Devyn says. “It’s under control. You just vanish and collect your money.”

“Do you have to start like this?” Julian asks.

“Devyn, come on,” Henri says. “Let’s sit down. Tell an old story or two.”

“Is that your wife over at the bar?” Devyn asks Henri. “All alone. Pulling up her dress. Looks like she wants to pull that dress down too. Are those tits real? Or did she get them done?”
