“Do you know what’s in it?” It was only a matter of time before Daryl tried to sneak into the impound lot. Morgan was surprised he hadn’t already tried.

“I have no idea,” Sam replied. “He kept it close to him at all times, and I never had an urge to look. That has to be what he’s searching for.”

“It’s also why he isn’t going to leave town yet,” Morgan said. “I have to call Sheriff Harper and let him know. We have to get the bag before Daryl does.”

“You have my keys.” Sam groaned. “If I hadn’t grabbed that bag, Daryl wouldn’t be after me.”

“If he wasn’t a piece of shit, none of this would have happened in the first place.”

“Go ahead and call your boss.” Sam tossed the blanket aside. “I have to empty my bladder.”

Morgan growled. “What have I told you about putting a toe on the floor?”

“Fine, Nurse Growly. Carry me to the bathroom and hold my dick while I pee.”

“You don’t have to make it sound so—”

“Hurry up before I don’t make it.”

Sam lifted his arms, but Morgan knew his mate was only being a brat. He scooped Sam up and carried him into the other room.

“I’ll just hold you steady while you drain the weasel.” Morgan gripped Sam’s sides as his mind went back to that duffel. Daryl must not know where Sam’s car was. There was no doubt in Morgan’s mind that the hyena would have already broken into the lot if he’d known it was there.

Sam flushed, and Morgan held on as his mate shuffled to the sink. When he finished washing his hands, Morgan picked him up and carried him back to bed.

“You better be careful,” Sam said while Morgan tucked him back in. “A guy could really get spoiled by this kind of treatment.”

“If I’m ever injured, you can return the favor.”

“If I return the favor, we’ll both be laid up,” Sam replied. “You weigh a ton.”

Morgan grinned as he lifted his arm and flexed his bicep, knowing how much his mate loved his body. “I’m a bear of a man.”

Sam’s gaze was transfixed on Morgan’s arm as he licked his lips. “Who loves his sweets.”

It had started out as teasing, but watching Sam’s pink tongue glide across his lips made Morgan’s cock twitch. “I’m going to step outside to talk to Sheriff Harper. If you try to get out of bed, I’ll cuff you to it.”

“If you try, I’ll tell Dr. Baldwin you were in here wrestling me. He’ll kick your butt.”

“Don’t you dare get me into trouble.” Morgan pointed a finger at him. “I’ll be right back.”

“I want some snacks and a soda from the vending machines while you’re gone,” Sam said as Morgan headed for the door. “Chips and some kind of chocolate bar.”

“As long as Dr. Baldwin says it’s okay.” Morgan grabbed the handle and opened the door.

“Unless I let the chocolate melt all over them, I don’t think snacks will interfere with my stitches,” Sam argued.

Morgan grinned, shook his head, and walked into the hallway.

Chapter Twelve

Morgan wasn’t sure if Dominic was back at the station or if he’d gone home. It would suck if he pulled his boss away from his mate, but time was a factor.

“Cannon is at home resting,” Dominic said when he answered. “How’s Sam doing?”

Morgan couldn’t wait until people could stop asking that, though he was touched at Dominic’s concern. “Feisty and ready to get out of here.”

Dominic chuckled. “That’s better than pissy and ready to put his foot up your ass.” He sobered. “Wyatt and Denali just ended their search with no luck, but we’re not going to give up finding the hyena.”
