We have forwarded your information to her and will reach out within the next few weeks to discuss the next steps, should it be the right fit.

While I don’t love the idea of switching over to a streaming service, I adore the author’s books, and it would be a dream come true to work on the script for the mini-series. For the first time in a week, everything feels like it’s falling into place. It’s only a matter of time before the chatter dies down about how I left the network, so between this glimmer of hope and the potential that I’ll be nominated for an award…
If only Caleb wasn’t leaving.
“You’re up early,” Cass grumbles, plopping herself on the couch next to me. She takes my coffee from me and finishes it in four quick gulps. “Need another?”
“No,” I laugh, “but guess what?”
“You’re moving in?” She stands to make herself another coffee.
“No, but maybe the opposite,” I reply meekly.
“You’re moving in with Cay?”
“No! I’ve been back a week, I’m not moving in with him. I got an email from Romance Flix; they’ve sent my information to the book’s author. I’ve heard from other writers that she's a control freak and always picks her own team for her movies and mini-series projects. The fact that they emailed me back… I have a good feeling about it.”
“Look at you, Miss I’m Going Places.” While she’s teasing, her tone is still full of pride. “That’s fucking amazing. So, how much longer before you leave for another decade?”
“Cass…”
“I’m kidding! Okay, I’m not. What about Caleb? Does he know?”
I shake my head. “No, I just got the email. There’s no point in saying anything, I haven’t been offered the job. Who knows where they will want me to be to write it, but he’s leaving in a couple of weeks anyway.”
Once her coffee is poured, she sits on the couch and faces me. “You know I love you; you’re family. But Cay? He’s been obsessed with you since we were kids. I think in his mind, he’s going to leave for two years and come back home to find you waiting on his porch or something. Don’t get me wrong, that’s on him, but I don’t see you staying here, even if they let you write remotely.”
“I know,” I sigh. “I love being home. It’s quiet, things are slower…”
“But?”
“But, I miss the city! I miss being able to grab a slice of pizza at two in the morning. I miss the hustle and bustle. I miss being able to walk through Central Park when I need to clear my head. I…” But I’ll miss Caleb when he’s gone, more.
“What?”
I shake away the thought. “Nothing. I just miss my life.” Taking her hand in mine, I add, “You can come with me?”
“To visit? Sure. But I’d never survive in the concrete jungle. I love my life here. I know I joke about you two running off into the sunset, but things are getting serious between you and Cay. I just hope you’re both being careful.”
“We’re not,” I chuckle. “This is weird to talk about with you, but I don’t know that I can handle having someone in my life who is basically a temporary boyfriend. We have an expiration date. Who in their right mind starts a relationship knowing it’s going to end?”
“I think that’s where you’re wrong. I don’t think he sees it ending. It’s not some summer fling for him.” Her phone vibrates, and she checks it. “Speak of the devil… Aww.” She shows me her text messages.
Caleb
Meet Inferno.
It’s accompanied by a picture of Travis snuggling a Dalmatian, and I burst out in laughter. I was so worried that Caleb would send a hot photo of him with a puppy, but turns out Cass is getting all the thirst traps. A moment later, my own phone dings with a message from Caleb.
