Elliot: See you on the other side.

Nervous energy courses through me as I power off my phone and slide it back into my pocket as footsteps move closer.

Spinning around, I find my girl walking towards me with a smile on her face.

“Where’s Lauren?” I ask, watching her approach.

“Gone. She said to let you know that dinner will arrive in thirty minutes and that there is champagne in the fridge.”

She doesn’t stop until she’s right in front of me. But it’s not close enough. Sliding hands over her waist, I grab her ass and tug her body up against mine.

“Hi,” she breathes, staring up into my eyes.

“Hey. Everything okay?”

Her smile grows and it totally settles me.“This is incredible, Elliot.”

I shake my head, ducking my head, my lips meet hers in a sweet yet all-consuming kiss.

“The only incredible thing here,” I breathe onto her lips, “is you.”

ABIGAIL

This place is like something out of a fairy tale.

I know Elliot and the Heirs are filthy rich. I know they’ll never have to want for anything in life. And I guess I can include myself in that, but this… This is more than I could ever dream of.

“Is everything okay?” he asks, watching me from across the table.

Dinner arrived forty minutes ago. A mouth-watering three course meal of fillet mignon steak, crushed potatoes, and garlic broccoli. The server wanted to stay and wait on us, but Elliot was quick to usher him away, insisting that he could do it.

“It’s amazing, thank you,” I reply. “But I don’t think I can eat another thing.”

“There’s still dessert.” Hunger simmers in his eyes, sending a violent shiver through me.

Part of me still can’t believe we’re here, at Lauren’s family’s country club.

When I first saw her here, my heart sank.

For a second, I wondered if this was all another elaborate plan to humiliate me. But after our brief conversation, I realise now that I was wrong.

It seems I’ve been wrong about a lot of things.

As if he can hear my thoughts, Elliot says, “What did you and Lauren talk about?”

“She wanted to reassure me that she has no intentions of stealing you away from me,” I reply honestly despite the blush staining my cheeks.

“You know that would never happen, right? She’s not the girl I want, Abi. She never will be.”

“I’m beginning to get that.”

“Maybe I should show you.” His eyes darken, making my tummy clench.

“Maybe you should.”

The air crackles around us, charged with anticipation.
