“Sweetness ... what are you doing?” His voice was rough.
She ran her fingers up his chiselled chest, pausing over his heart and revelling in the hammering she’d caused. “I want you.”
She was airborne less than a second later, her legs wrapped around his waist as he strode toward the bedroom. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing, sweetness.” His words came out strained.
“You don’t look like you’re complaining.”
“That’s ’cause I’ve got all night, baby.”
He cut off any sort of reply with his lips as he kissed her hard, scrambling her brain cells and making her shake as he lowered them onto the bed.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Alice was hiding behind sex. Brady knew it. She knew it. And she knew he knew it. But what the hell was he supposed to do about it? It’s not like he could resist her. He was only a man after all. Every time he got close to smashing down those walls, she would take off her clothes. Brady knew this was not the sort of problem he should be complaining about, but it was starting to get ridiculous.
As Alice stirred in his arms, he gave her a gentle squeeze. He’d upped their encounters over the past two weeks, and they were now spending every night together. Right now, he wasn’t certain if that were a good thing or a bad thing. He was falling harder while she was still pushing him away. At least emotionally anyway.
But today he had a plan. They both had the day off, and he was going to take advantage of that and whisk her away.
“Morning.” Her husky, unused voice stimulated a smile.
“Morning, sweetness.” He dropped kisses along her hairline and breathed in her flowery, chocolate scent.
“I should get up. Maybe go see if Lily needs any help at the store.” She went to move, but he tightened his hold.
“We have plans, sweetness.” She looked up at him, confusion clouding her expression. “You said you wanted to do a trail ride, so I spoke to Jake and he’s letting us take a couple of his horses out today.”
“You ... what?”
“I’m gonna take you on a trail ride, then I thought we could drive over to Splitrock and try out that new Italian place.”
She shifted her body until she was up on one elbow and hovering over him, her soft flesh still pressed into his chest. “Are you trying to trick me into going on a date with you, Deputy?”
“Would I do that?” He knew the look of innocence he was attempting to portray was failing miserably.
“Brady ...” She let out an exasperated sigh. “That’s not what we do. I’m not your girlfriend. You don’t have to take me on dates or hold my hand in public. Let’s not pretend we’re something we’re not.”
