This was Aurora’s doing and the timing was incredibly suspicious.
We were getting ready to re-record the song and she gave permission to a politician whose beliefs didn’t align with ours in any way, shape, or form to use them?
Not to mention, it was a politician I happened to know.
A politician Harley was friends with.
And they’d had lunch a few days ago.
I closed my eyes and tried to breathe through the roiling of my stomach.
What the hell had she done?
We’d been clear we couldn’t talk about our plans to anyone. Hadn’t she been listening? Did she not care? What the fuck had she been thinking?
This was a complete slap in the face, both to me and to the band, and so out of character for her.
“Babe, do you think these shoes work with the pink dress?” She was holding up a pair of shoes, but I barely looked up.
“What did you tell Freya?” I asked quietly.
“Huh?” She sounded confused.
“Was Freya at lunch with you girls the other day?”
“Yes. Why?”
I held out the phone. “Hit play.”
She put the shoes down and took my phone from me.
I watched her face as she watched the ad, and it went from confusion to horror to guilt.
Son of a bitch.
“Harley. What did you do?”
“Oh my god.” She’d gotten a little pale. “Oh no no no.”
“Dammit, Harley, what did you tell her?”
“I…” Her voice trailed as she looked at me. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t… it just slipped out. We were talking about everything going on and catching up. I…shit.” She closed her eyes. “This is my fault.”
“You told her we were re-recording the two songs?”
She nodded miserably. “I’m so, so sorry. We talked about everything when we were in group. The NDA…”
“The NDA doesn’t apply once we leave Harmony Place!” I snapped.
Her eyes filled with tears. “I should have known better. I just didn’t think… I’m sorry. What do I do?”
“You’ve done enough,” I muttered, yanking my phone back and texting Z.
TOMMY: We’ll be there in thirty. I already know what happened. I’ll explain when I get there.
“I just got a text about a band meeting.”
“Yeah. You’re going to have to explain to the guys.” I grabbed my wallet and stuck my phone in my pocket. “We need to get over there now.”
