“What happened? I just got back from the clinic and saw the other room was wide open and a mess.”

“Where’s Massimo?”

“He wanted to come, but he’s still injured. I made him stay back.”

“Carlo found us,” I explain.

“How?”

“I’m not sure.”

Emilio cusses and runs a hand over his face. It’s so much like Rocco; it’s a little freaky. “He must have been checking every motel in the area, searching for us.”

“He took Rocco. We have to get him back,” I say.

“We will. I almost just lost one brother. I’m not about to let it happen again. We need to go now. Maybe we can catch up to them.”

“Was there a man outside?” I ask.

“No.”

Gabriella and I share a look.

“What is it?” Emilio asks.

“It’s not important right now. What’s important is going after Rocco.” Both Gabriella and I head for the door.

Emilio holds up his hands. “Wait a minute. You two are not coming with me.”

“Yes, we are,” we say in unison.

“Rocco is my brother, too,” Gabriella says.

“And he’s my husband. We’re coming with.”

“Besides, you wouldn’t know what car they were in,” Gabriella says.

I nod. “I saw it. I know the license plate number. We can find the van and hopefully find where Rocco is.”

Emilio is quiet for a moment before groaning. “Ok, fine. Even though Rocco would kill me for letting you help, I’ll allow it. But please don’t get yourselves killed.”

Gabriella smirks. “Please. We know how to handle ourselves. Now, let’s save Rocco.”

CHAPTER 19

Rocco

Iwake up somewhere dark with my hands and feet bound and duct tape over my mouth. Despite this, all I can think about is Lara. Is she ok? Carlo said he wouldn’t kill her, but he told his men to have their way with her.

She told me she loves me.

After everything we’ve been through, after how I’ve treated her, she’s chosen to love me.

I will kill Carlo, get back to Lara, and take my rightful place as Mafia boss of New York City.

The light above me turns on, blinding me for a moment. I hear footsteps enter whatever room I’m in.

Once my eyes adjust, I see I’m in a concrete room, and Carlo is standing before me with Dante behind him.
