“I like that one,” she said, and I snorted.

“Yeah, I can tell,” I said, shaking with my own need above her. Tenley must have seen the strain on my face because she reached between us and snuck her clever fingers between the toy and my center, stroking my clit.

“Oh, fuck,” I said, my arms trembling as I tried to hold myself up and she pushed me toward my own climax.

“That’s my girl. Come for me. Let me see it on your pretty face,” she said and that was it. Her words set off my orgasm and I collapsed on top of her as the waves pulled me under. She held me and kissed my face until the storm quieted and I was warm and sleepy again.

I rolled onto my back next to her, still wearing the toy.

“I definitely think you should skip work more often,” she said, flicking her fingers against the toy and making it wobble.

“I’d quit my job if we got to do this every day,” I said, still breathing heavy.

“And what would you do for money?” she asked.

I flipped onto my side so I could stare at her. The toy brushed against her leg, leaving a trail.

“Mooch off my author girlfriend?” I asked and Tenley gave a start at that last word.

“Oh, am I your girlfriend now? You’ve just decided that?” she asked, but there was a smile in her voice.

“I mean, you were the one who asked me to be your fake girlfriend. I’m asking you to be my real one,” I said. “What do you think?”

Tenley grinned and my heart hammered in my chest in excitement.

“I already came out, so I don’t have to do that again. I mean, I still don’t know where the hell I fall on whatever sexuality scale there is,” she said.

“It’s okay,” I said, kissing the tip of her nose. “We can figure it out together. Will you be my girlfriend?”

Tenley nodded and let out a giggle. “I think I’m going to like being your real girlfriend.”

Chapter Fifteen

Having Tenley as my real girlfriend was so much easier than having a fake girlfriend. She slid absolutely seamlessly into my life and within a week, it was like we’d always been dating. For someone who’d only ever had one boyfriend, Tenley was an excellent girlfriend. During one of my breaks at work when a customer had made me cry (before Liam threw him out), she’d gone out and come back with a massive box of beautiful cupcakes, all the way from Sweet’s in Castleton.

“You’re going to share those, right?” Lark asked, peering into the box when Tenley presented it to me.

“Maybe,” I said, drawing out the word. “Maybe I’ll share.”

“I’ll remind you how many times I have fed you, Mia,” Lark said.

I rolled my eyes. “Okay fine, you can have two.”

“Sydney will be upset if I don’t get her one,” Lark pointed out.

“You can have three,” I amended.

Tenley also wanted to meet my sister and my niece much sooner than I would have expected.

“They’re important to you,” she said. “And you talk about them all the time, so I feel like I’m missing out. I’d introduce you to my brothers, but they’re animals.”

“I’ve met your brothers,” I said. “I don’t care to repeat the experience.”

“That’s fine, you can avoid them. I do.”

It was Tenley’s suggestion that we pick up dinner and bring it over to Ingrid’s house so she wouldn’t have to cook or wash dishes, which was so thoughtful that I had to make out with her in the car before we went in.

Ingrid had been shocked when I informed her that my former fake girlfriend was not, in fact, straight and now she was my real girlfriend, but she’d kept the judgment to a minimum.
