Cowgirl flipped him the bird. “Shut up. Her heart’s broken, and she’s full of bitterness.”
“Ta-Tas, let me know if you want rebound sex,” Lefty said. “I’m your man if you do.”
Isabella crinkled her nose. “Is he always so cheesy?”
“He’s harmless as long as you don’t date him,” Cowgirl said.
The door swung open, letting a sliver of light into the dark bar. “Isabella, are you in here?” Chloe marched to the center of the bar, a wild look of fear and determination on her face. “What have you done with her? I know she’s here somewhere.” Wearing a sequined club dress that stopped at her ass cheeks and a pink fur coat did not help her blend in.
Another of the bar’s occupants walked up to Chloe. “Miss, it’s time for you to go.” He wrapped an arm around her waist, threw her over his shoulder, and headed to the door.
Chloe screamed and pummeled him with one hand while trying to cover her butt with the other.
“Know her?” Cowgirl calmly asked Isabella.
“Yep.”
“Want her to stay?”
“I guess.” Might as well get this over with.
“Deuce, put her down,” Cowgirl ordered. “She can stay.”
Deuce dropped Chloe to her stilettoed feet.
Chloe thanked him by clocking him with her purse hard enough to elicit a grunt.
Lefty broke into a belly laugh.
“Chloe, get over here before you get us both killed or thrown out,” Isabella ground out.
Chloe swirled around and spotted Isabella in her dark corner. “What in the hell are you doing all the way in the back, and why didn’t you call me, and have you heard?”
Cowgirl slipped out of the booth and Chloe slid in.
“I thought you were out of the country,” Isabella said. “And how the hell did you even find me?”
“The jet landed twenty-minutes ago, and I tracked you on your phone.”
Oh yeah. She hadn’t turned that feature off. Flats. “Why did you betray me?” No sense in dancing around what needed to be asked.
Chloe stilled. “What?”
“I’ve given it a lot of thought, and the only thing that makes sense is the outing of Pillar was a publicity stunt to help your difficult client’s career. Which means it was your idea to have her offer a movie cameo to discover his identity, and then you arranged for the truth to be spilled so she could get all the media attention for outing him.”
“You truly believe that? I thought we were friends.”
“I thought we were too, but it’s the only scenario that makes sense.”
“I did not set any of it up,” Chloe said between gritted teeth.
“Someone had to set it all up.”
“That’s why I’m here. To let you know what happened. I talked to my client, and according to her sources, it was a woman. An older woman who put a name to Pillar.”
Isabella swallowed hard. “What woman?”
“I don’t know, but I’m working on it, and I’m working on spinning all of this for Chandler.”
