Kendra steps closer to me, waving away Toron’s hand when he tries to block her from us. “Hi, I’m Kendra.” She sticks her hand out to Thro, who eyes it warily before looking at me for approval. I give him a soft nod, and he removes his hand from mine and takes Kendra’s.
She’s around my height, which means Thro is just about her size as well. He rubs at his horn, a mannerism that a lot of the demons do when they’re nervous. When he’s met with the broken horn, his eyes go wide, and I can see the panic setting in for him. Kendra senses it, too, and starts speaking before he can start freaking out even more. “Can I show you around the tribe? One of my friends will have to join us, but I think you’ll like him.”
Thro’s bottom lip starts to tremble, and tears start to form on his lids. I’m just about to call off being alone with Toron until we can get Thro more settled. Toron’s whole body is starting to slouch as well. It’s almost like he feels just as badly about all of this as I do.
We’re both so focused on trying to figure out how to make Thro feel safer and more comfortable that we don’t notice Xoth coming to stand behind his mate until he’s there, rubbing at his own malformed horns. He eyes Toron as if he might attack at any moment.
“Can Kendra and I show you around?” Xoth kneels down when he knows Toron isn’t going to lunge for him. Thro’s eyes move to the jagged edges of Xoth’s horns, his eyes narrowing at him like he can sense that Kendra called him over because his horns are a little messed up, too. Xoth, instead of being offended, gives him a big smile and laughs as he speaks. “Yes, yes, our horns are not glorious. We make up for it in other ways. I will show you.”
Thro’s hand loosens on mine, a curious expression taking over the trepidation. He moves to stand next to me, still uncertain if he’s leaving us or not. “What kinds of ways?”
“Well, the most important, of course,” Xoth says, holding out his hand. Kendra gives him a look that tells him he better not be about to make this really weird for all of us. I don’t think the demons are that crass with their young, but Toron was just asking him if he needed to lie to him about what mating is to get him to leave us alone. Thro takes Xoth’s hand, and we all breathe a sigh of relief as he pulls him away, telling him all of the things he will teach him. “The first and most important thing is to be better than all of the males around you at everything. Thankfully, all of these males are weak and pathetic at most things, so it will be easy for you to stand out here.”
“Oh yes.” Erkoz joins Xoth’s side as the duo enters the gates. “We will teach you how to be funny and cunning and annoying. These are all traits females love. We have learned this.”
“He does not need to impress females for many years,” Xoth scolds Erkoz, but they’re too far away for us to hear the rest of their conversation.
I watch Thro disappear, wondering if he’s going to be okay without me and if the others are going to treat him right. I don’t notice as Toron gives everyone else a death glare that tells them to leave. I’m so lost in my thoughts that I don’t notice anything else until Toron is knelt in front of me, with a hand on my chin, tilting my eyes to meet his.
“I want to do many, many things to you. My room is occupied by Yril and his mate. Can we go to your room, or would you like to wait until I get a home setup for us?” Toron’s eyes scan my face, a hopeful look in them but also a knowing understanding that makes me weak to everything else.
“Let’s go to my room.” The words are barely out of my mouth before he has me wrapped up in his arms and is running through the tribe toward my bedroom.

Alice
Toron sets me on the bed before running back over to the door and closing it gently. He kneels down and flicks the lock in place, stands up, wiggles the door around, and then nods to himself like he’s done a great job securing the door. I might think he’s stalling, except he turns around and runs straight back to the bed. His fingers make quick work of his pant ties as he moves. My eyes go wide as I start to stress myself out about doing it wrong.
“No, no, none of that.” Toron leans down and cups my cheek. “No worrying, no panicking. I am in charge here, in this shared place, yes?”
“Yes.” The word is shaky as it comes out.
Toron gives me a small smile as he pushes my hair behind my ear, letting his fingers push the length behind my shoulders and then cupping my shoulder with one hand. His other hand is the only thing holding his pants up. It has my heart racing in excitement and fear. Not fear of my mate, but fear that somehow I’m going to do it wrong. I know the likelihood of that is low, but my confidence in my sexual ability is about zero.
“Eyes on me, Alice,” Toron whispers, his red eyes boring into me when I finally look up at him. “I may sound angry, but know that it is not at you.”
“I know. You’re just an angry-sounding alien.”
Toron’s smile grows, but the gruffness of his voice stays the same. “Only until I have stated myself with your body.”
Butterflies erupt in my stomach, warmth pooling in my lower abdomen as what we’re about to do really sinks in. If I only listen to my body, I’ll be having a great time. Unfortunately, I also have a mind that’s working overtime, telling me all of the ways I’m going to mess this up while also yelling at me not to mess this up because I kind of really like this alien. I want to be his mate. I mean, I already am, but I want him to be as happy as my mate and not disappointed when I lie here like a limp starfish.
Toron’s fingers brush the hem of my tunic. My mind snaps back to the present to Toron smiling up at me now that he’s knelt in front of me. “How do I get you to pay attention to only me?”
“I don’t know,” I answer. “I’m always in my head.”
“I have noticed this.” Toron’s fingers move a bit further under the tunic, stroking the sides of my thighs and causing goosebumps to erupt all over my skin. “I want you to focus on me right now, though. Can you try?”
I nod my head, sucking in my lower lip and chewing on it. My fingers fiddle with one another in my lap as Toron stands back up, pulling my tunic with him as he goes. I let out a squeal, not expecting to be stripped of my only clothing this quickly. The sound doesn’t distress Toron at all. No, if anything, he likes it. He throws the tunic behind him, not caring where it lands as he kneels back in front of me, his face level with mine when he’s on his knees.
“Focus only on me, okay?” Toron waits for a nod and a small whimper to escape my lips before smiling at me and pulling me close to the edge of the bed. I let my body fall back, knowing he’s about to be putting his face somewhere I desperately want him to be. I don’t know what to expect since no one has ever done this for me. I’d be a dirty liar to say I’m not more than excited for it, though.
Toron growls softly, causing me to sit up on my elbows and look back down my body. He narrows his eyes on me and then looks around the room. When he spots what he wants, he stands, goes to grab the few pillows at the top of the bed, and positions them behind me. He props me up, so I’m forced to watch him sit back down between my legs.
“Much better.” He grabs my thighs and spreads me wide again. “Now, watch me, tell me what feels good, and let me pleasure you.”
I expect him to start timidly since it’s the first time he’s ever done this. Nope, he’s between my legs, holding me tight against his face as he makes long, slow strokes to spread me open for him. I see stars for a second, not ready for the pleasure he’s giving me. Nothing I’ve ever done has felt like an eight-foot-tall demon alien’s tongue trying to taste every single inch of me.
