Page 11 of His Human to Charm

Deja throws her head back and lets out a laugh that rivals Kendra’s, and for some reason, it settles some of my nerves and the embarrassment that’s threatening to consume me at the mention of how shy and awkward I am when it comes to Toron. To really anyone, but with Toron, it’s even worse. It’s like I’m a twelve-year-old with her first crush again, and it really blows.

“In my defense,” I say a bit loud and then turn to face Toron to make sure he can’t hear anything I’m saying. His eyes narrow on me and then fall to the smile on my lips before his shoulders relax a bit. He nods softly to himself, to me, I don’t know, but it has me returning my focus to the other women. “It’s not like he talks to me either.”

“Do you want to know why?” Kendra asks as she tosses back a shot for herself. She pours a second one while she waits for my answer but doesn’t drink it. I do want to know why Toron is so awkward about talking with me, but a part of me is also worried that it’s because he doesn’t want me as a mate. What if he’s disappointed that he has me as a mate?

“I want to know,” Deja says with a bit too much glee.

She grabs my shoulder and gives it a squeeze, much like the other demon did to Toron not a few moments earlier. Seeing the smile on her face and the enjoyment she’s having right now has my nerves easing. Maybe I can find a way to be comfortable around these people and finally get over how awkward I am when I try to talk with people. The shot I took helps with that. I can already feel it warming my belly and causing my spirits.

“You already know why, Deja,” Kendra rolls her eyes as though the answer is obvious. “He only has one thing on his mind, and it’s all he’ll be thinking about until he finally gets it.”

Deja cackles again as she looks over at her mate, the male sitting next to Toron. It makes sense now that he’s the one trying to calm Toron down. He’s also another one of the demons who’s gone through the transition of being an angry giant alien warrior, and he’s related to Toron. He’s probably the only demon here who isn’t scared Toron might kill him since he’s the only one here who’s stronger than him.

“What does he want?” I ask, my brows furrowing together. If there’s some sort of custom I’m missing, I’d like to get it figured out if it will make Toron stop being just as awkward around me as I am around him. This will never work if neither of us can say more than a few uncomfortable words to each other while we both purposefully stare anywhere but at one another. Well, I stare anywhere besides at him because he is always trying to burn a hole through me.

Kendra gives me a bewildered look and then turns to Olivia, who’s sitting in her seat with eyes jumping between us. She’s enjoying watching the rest of us talk more than joining in herself. “How much of a virgin did you say she was?”

I gasp, reaching for my shot and shooting it as quickly as possible to get over the mortification of the way this conversation is about to go. I told Skylar about being a virgin when we were still on Earth, so telling Olivia when she came to talk with me in the evenings was easier than the first time I had to explain it to Skylar. Especially since Skylar was way more intrusive in her questioning than Olivia was.

“I’ve seen and touched a penis before,” I groan as I rub my temples between my fingers. It’s mostly for show since it’s taking everything in me not to start laughing at how ludicrous this whole thing is.

I don’t open my eyes again until I hear Kendra filling up my cup again. I’m just about to tell her that two shots are probably enough to get me tipsy since this stuff tastes strong as hell, and I was a lightweight even when I was drinking more often. I don’t get a chance to reject the drink before a demon yells across the hall.

“No more drinks, Kendra,” one of her mates yells. I don’t remember their names, but he’s the darker of the two. I glance over at Toron, who looks way too tense, but he’s nodding along with what Kendra’s mate is saying. Kendra opens her mouth to say something that looks like it will be scathing, considering her posture has changed from carefree to ready to argue in a second. “You drink as much as you want. Xoth and I want to make you do many things tonight. The new human needs to be done, though.”

Kendra flips him off before grabbing both of our drinks and tossing them back one after the other. “Sorry.” She gives me a sympathetic pout before returning all her attention to us. Her eyes light up for a minute, and then she turns to Olivia and whispers something that has her blushing profusely. Olivia shakes her head, but a smile stays on her lips. “Come on, it’ll be great.”

“You have to ask your mates and Alice’s,” Olivia says, closing her eyes for a long moment.

“Easy,” Kendra says as she claps her hands together and stands from her chair.

She sways on her feet, and I expect one of her mates to help her. Instead, when I look around for them, they’re watching her with amusement twinkling in their dark eyes. They stand near one of the tables where they are talking with someone, but now their attention is on Kendra as she tries not to topple over just by standing up. She turns to me right as she’s about to pass by my chair.

“Want to see what one of their dicks looks like?” She wiggles her brows at me but doesn’t wait for an answer before skipping over to her mates and pulling on the dark one’s tunic until he brings his face close to hers.

“She’s going to get us all in so much trouble,” Deja chuckles as she says it, but she doesn’t seem worried at all.

“I don’t think I want to see her mates’ penises — peni?” I giggle as I stumble over to call the plural of penis.

The alcohol finally works into my system and gives me the giggles and the ability to talk that I normally struggle with. Not that I struggle with the words when I’m sober. I have plenty in my mind. I just never say them. Add alcohol to the mix, and that filter that keeps me from making a fool of myself is eviscerated, and I’m left sharing all of my thoughts.

“It won’t be theirs.” Olivia shakes her head again, this time keeping her eyes on Kendra as she’s dragged to stand in front of Deja’s mate and Toron. Her dark-scaled mate disappears down one of the hallways. The other has a firm grasp on her wrists as he stands her in front of the other two males and tells her to speak with them. She’s laughing up a storm the whole time, and no one seems worried about her, so I assume this is normal for them.

“Dath won’t like it,” Deja murmurs as she watches the two males for their reactions to whatever Kendra is saying.

Just as she predicted, both Toron and Dath stiffen dramatically, their red eyes narrowing on the small female as she scurries behind her mate, who is now laughing and trying to pry her off his scales. Her mate says something to the two angry demons, and Dath’s posture changes. He leans back in his chair, a harsh bark of laughter erupting from him.

Deja sighs next to me, and her body relaxes back into her seat as well. “Thought I was going to have to go calm him down.”

“Calm him down?” I ask.

“Oh, you’ll have to do it for yours.” She smiles as she watches Kendra’s mate toss something to Dath. “The change they went through makes them angry. Probably whatever their equivalent to testosterone in men is. They’re giant, dangerous, and have anger issues.”

“So you sleep with him to calm him down?”

“I don’t have to do much of anything. He does all the work.” Deja’s smile grows until it crinkles the corner of her eyes. “He won’t ever hurt you. They’d kill themselves before they ever hurt their mates.”

I don’t question her last statement for even a second. I’ve seen Toron angry, like when he pushed one of the demons against the wall or when he’s growled and hissed at anyone who’s gotten too close to my room. I’ve never once been scared of him, though. Well, not since the first day when I was scared how badly I found myself wanting him. And even that fear was just of my own inadequacies.
