Josh nods in understanding, a warm smile spreading across his face. “That sounds amazing, Andrea. I can definitely see you as a mom,” he says, his tone filled with sincerity.

I return his smile, feeling a sense of warmth settle in my chest at his words. “Thanks, Josh. What about you? What are your dreams for the future?”

Josh’s expression turns thoughtful as he considers his answer. “Well, as you know, I’ve always wanted to open my own restaurant,” he admits, his voice tinged with excitement. “I love cooking, and I think it would be amazing to share that passion with others. After that, I am hoping to have a family as well.”

I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the thought of Josh so close to realizing his dream. “That sounds incredible, Josh. I have no doubt that you’ll make it happen,” I say, my voice filled with conviction.

Our conversation continues long into the evening, as we discuss our hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the future. Despite the uncertainty that lies ahead, I feel a sense of optimism blooming within me, buoyed by the knowledge that I have a friend like Josh by my side.

As we finish our meal and prepare to leave, Josh insists on paying the bill, despite my protests. “Consider it a thank you for not stepping on my foot this time,” he says with a grin, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

I can’t help but laugh at his antics, feeling grateful for his generosity. “Thanks, Josh. I had a great time tonight,” I say sincerely, giving him a warm smile.

“The pleasure was all mine, Andrea,” Josh replies, returning my smile with one of his own.

As we make our way back to the car, a sense of contentment washes over me, knowing that I’ve spent the evening with someone who truly cares about me. But as we reach my apartment building, our lighthearted banter is interrupted by an unexpected sight. A stray cat sits on the steps, meowing loudly as it looks up at us with pleading eyes.

“Oh, look at that little guy,” I say with a soft smile, feeling a pang of sympathy for the homeless animal.

Josh nods in agreement, his gaze filled with compassion. “Poor thing. It must be hungry,” he says, his voice tinged with concern.

Without hesitation, Josh reaches into the backseat and grabs a leftover sandwich from our meal. “Here you go, buddy,” he says, offering the sandwich to the hungry cat.

To our surprise, the cat eagerly devours the sandwich, its tail wagging in gratitude as it feasts on the unexpected meal. Josh and I share a smile, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over us at the sight of the grateful animal.

“Well, I guess our good deed for the day is done,” Josh says with a chuckle, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

I agree, feeling a sense of warmth spread through me at the simple act of kindness, “You are always so compassionate, Josh. It’s one of the things I admire most about you,” I say sincerely.

Josh smiles, his expression softening with emotion. “I want to lend a helping hand anytime I can,” he replies, his voice filled with sincerity.

As we bid each other goodnight, I can’t help but revel in the happiness brought by our time spent together.

Chapter fourteen

Josh

As Andrea and I bid each other goodnight, I can’t help but feel a sense of contentment wash over me. The evening we’ve shared has been nothing short of magical, and I find myself feeling grateful for her enduring presence in my life.

My mind is consumed with thoughts of the future as I make my way back to my apartment. Opening my own restaurant has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. With Andrea’s support, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through me as I start to write down a plan.

The next day, I decide to share the news with Tanya, knowing that she’ll share in my excitement. As I dial her number, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building within me, eager to share my plans with my sister.

“Hey, Tanya, it’s Josh,” I say as soon as she picks up, unable to contain my excitement.

“Hey, bro! What’s up?” Tanya’s voice comes through the line, filled with warmth and enthusiasm.

“I’ve got some big news to share with you,” I reply, unable to keep the grin from my face. “I’ve finally decided to open my own restaurant.”

Tanya’s gasp of excitement is music to my ears, and I can’t help but laugh at her reaction. “That’s amazing, Josh! I’m so happy for you!” she exclaims, her voice filled with genuine excitement.

“Thanks, Tanya. I’m so excited,” I say, feeling a surge of pride swell within me. “But that’s not all. I was hoping you could help me with some of the planning.”

“Of course, Josh. I’d be happy to help in any way I can,” Tanya replies eagerly, her voice tinged with excitement.

As we discuss potential themes and menu options for the new establishment, I find myself growing increasingly grateful for Tanya’s support. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement building within me as we brainstorm ideas together.

But amidst the excitement, there’s a nagging doubt that refuses to be ignored.
