“Come on, let me take you home,” he says, and without any complaints we walk back to his car.

When Josh pulls up in front of my apartment, I can’t help but feel a sense of reluctance to say goodbye. “Thanks for tonight, Josh,” I say, my voice tinged with regret.
He smiles, his eyes warm as he meets my gaze. “Anytime, Andrea. I had a great time with you,” he replies, his voice soft with sincerity.
As I step out of the car and make my way up to my apartment, my mind is a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. On the one hand, I had an amazing time with Josh tonight, laughing and joking as we always have over the years. But on the other hand, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something more between us—something that I can’t quite put into words.
As I settle onto the couch, I find myself lost in thought, replaying the events of the evening in my mind. Every laugh, every smile, every fleeting touch—it all seems to take on a new significance, a deeper meaning that I can’t quite grasp.
“What is this, Andrea?” I whisper to myself, my voice filled with uncertainty. “What am I feeling for Josh?”
But try as I might, I can’t seem to find a satisfactory answer. It’s like trying to grasp at smoke, slipping through my fingers just when I think I’ve caught it.
“Do I like him?” I wonder aloud, the words hanging in the air like a heavy weight on my chest. “Could there be something more between us?”
But even as the questions swirl in my mind, I can’t help but feel a sense of fear creeping in. Fear of the unknown—fear of risking our friendship for something that may not even be real.
“But what if it is real?” I counter, my voice filled with desperation. “What if there’s something between us that’s worth exploring?”
As the night wears on, I find myself lost in a maze of insecurity, unable to find my way out. But despite the fear and the doubt, there’s a tiny spark of hope flickering within me, a glimmer of possibility that refuses to be extinguished.
And as I drift off to sleep, my mind still filled with questions and doubts. I can’t help but wonder what tomorrow will bring. Will it bring clarity and understanding, or will it only serve to deepen the mystery of my feelings for Josh? Only time will tell.
Chapter twelve
Josh
As I sit close to the counter, contemplating the upcoming wedding, a sudden thought strikes me: why not go on another date with Andrea to prepare? With a sense of excitement building within me, I quickly reach for my phone and dial her number.
The phone rings once, twice, before Andrea’s cheerful voice fills the line. “Hey, Josh! What’s up?” she answers, her tone warm and inviting.
“Hey, Andrea! I was thinking, since the wedding is coming up, maybe we could go on another date…to prepare?” I suggest, my voice filled with enthusiasm.
There’s a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and then Andrea’s voice comes through, filled with excitement. “That sounds like a great idea, Josh! I’m in,” she replies with anticipation.
A surge of relief washes over me at her enthusiastic response, and I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement building within me. “Awesome! I’ll pick you up after I get off work, okay,” I say, unable to contain the smile that spreads across my face.
“Sounds perfect. Oh, and by the way, Tanya and I will be coming in later for breakfast,” Andrea adds, her voice filled with warmth.
“Great! I can’t wait to see you both,” I reply, my heart filled with anticipation for the day ahead.
With a sense of satisfaction, I end the call and return to my work, a sense of excitement building within me at the thought of spending more alone time with Andrea.
Work is moving smoothly, the kitchen bustling with activity as orders fly in and out, and for a moment, I allow myself to bask in the satisfaction of a job well done. As I stand behind the counter of the bustling restaurant, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride wash over me.
But even as I revel in the success of the restaurant, there’s a nagging thought that refuses to be ignored. A dream that’s been brewing in the back of my mind for years, waiting for the right moment to come to fruition.
Opening my own restaurant.
The thought sends a thrill of excitement coursing through me, but it’s quickly overshadowed by a wave of doubt. What if no one likes my food? What if I fail?
I shake my head, trying to push aside the doubts that threaten to consume me. I have enough money saved up to make my dream a reality, and I can’t let fear hold me back.
But still, the doubts linger, like shadows in the corners of my mind, whispering their insidious lies.
I catch sight of Andrea and Tanya walking through the door, laughing as they walk toward their usual table. I can’t help but smile at the sight of them, feeling a surge of warmth in my chest at the thought of spending time with Andrea again.
