The room falls silent as all eyes turn to us, and I feel my face flush with embarrassment as I struggle to regain my composure.
I shoot Josh an apologetic glance, my cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “I’m so sorry, Josh. I didn’t mean to,” I whisper, my voice filled with regret.
Josh shakes his head. “It’s okay, Andrea. It was just an accident,” he replies, forcing a smile despite the pain that shoots through his foot.
As the rehearsal finally comes to an end, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. Despite the awkwardness and embarrassment of the past hour, we made it through in one piece.
Josh and I make our way back to my apartment, I know that no matter what challenges the ceremony will bring, we are one day closer to this being over.
Chapter ten
Josh
Ireflect on the evening, and I find myself surprised at how much I enjoyed the rehearsal. It might have been a little uncomfortable—and Andrea could use some extra dance practice, but I enjoyed Andrea’s company. Despite the awkward moments and Jeremy’s prying questions, there was a sense of camaraderie between us, a shared understanding that we were in this together.
Laughter fills the air as I drive Andrea home, releasing the tension that had lingered from the rehearsal. “So, that was quite the evening, huh?” I chuckle as I glance over at her.
She nods, her laughter bubbling up as she recalls the chaotic events of the rehearsal. “Definitely not what I was expecting, but at least we survived,” she replies, her voice tinged with amusement.
We spend the next few minutes recounting the highlights of the evening, each story more ridiculous than the last. From Jeremy’s awkward attempts at small talk to Melissa’s overly enthusiastic wedding plans, there’s no shortage of material to laugh about.
“I still can’t believe I accidentally stepped on your foot,” Andrea giggles, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
But it’s when we start reminiscing about the dance, our laughter reaches a whole new level. I chuckle, shaking my head at the memory.
“Yeah, that was definitely a memorable moment,” I reply, trying to suppress a grin as I recall the look of shock on Andrea’s face when she realized what she’d done.
But it’s not just the mishaps that have us laughing; it’s the unexpected moments and the connection that make the evening truly memorable. Like when we found ourselves locked in a battle of wills with Jeremy and Melissa, united in our determination to make it through the rehearsal unscathed.
“And then there was that moment when Jeremy cornered you in the hallway,” I say, unable to contain my frustration as I recall the panicked expression on Andrea’s face.
Andrea groans, burying her face in her hands as she remembers the uncomfortable encounter. “Ugh, don’t remind me. I swear, that guy is relentless,” she mutters, her voice muffled by her hands.
As the laughter fades and we settle into a comfortable silence, I marvel at the easy rapport we’ve developed. I find myself feeling grateful for Andrea’s continued presence in my life.
When I drop her off at her apartment, I find myself lingering, reluctant to say goodbye. “Thanks for tonight, Andrea,” I say, my voice tinged with sincerity. “Despite everything, I had a good time.”
Andrea smiles, her eyes shining with warmth. “Me too, Josh. It’s nice to have you by my side,” she replies, her voice soft with gratitude.
I can’t shake the feeling of contentment that settles over me during my drive home. For the first time in a long time, I find myself looking forward to the future, eager to see where this newfound connection with Andrea will lead.
As I settle onto the couch, my phone buzzes with an incoming call, and I see that it’s my sister.
“Hey, Tanya, what’s up?” I answer, eager to share the events of the evening with her.
“Hey, Josh! How did the wedding rehearsal go?” Tanya’s voice is filled with curiosity, and I can’t help but chuckle at the memory of the evening’s events.
“Oh, you wouldn’t believe it. It was a total circus,” I reply, launching into a lively retelling of the mishaps and mayhem that ensued.
Tanya listens intently, her laughter echoing through the phone as I recount the various misadventures of the evening. “Wow. Sounds like quite the show. Are you sure you two survived in one piece?” she jokes, her amusement evident in her voice.
I chuckle, shaking my head at the memory. “Barely, but somehow we made it through,” I reply, feeling a sense of camaraderie in sharing the absurdity of the evening with my sister.
But as the conversation continues, Tanya’s tone grows more serious, and she asks, “Is everything okay, though? You sound a little off.”
I hesitate for a moment, debating whether to share the unsettling encounter Andrea had with Jeremy. But ultimately, I decide to keep it light, not wanting to worry her unnecessarily.
“Yeah, everything’s fine. Just a long day, that’s all,” I assure her, trying to keep my tone light.
