So much to like.

Fuck.

I’ll have to go slow. Careful.

I’m going to be the first man she has. If not the first, I’ll be the first, the only, one that matters.

I am that sick son of a bitch.

She crosses to the front door and disappears inside with a hesitant glance over her shoulder. I adjust my cock and pull into traffic.

She’s lovely. Too young and pure for me.

If I was a decent man, I’d stop this insanity.

I’m known for good, steady choices. For being a hard worker, sacrificing my private life for Blue Sky. I had a litany of girlfriends after me who took exception to the fact that my business and my daughter were more important than them.

Samantha especially.

Nothing cools my blood more than her announcement this morning, and the crotch of my pants gets some much needed space. I don’t know if she is pregnant, or how far along she is, but very much doubt I’m the father.

A woman like her doesn’t wait months to latch onto a man with money and I was careful. Even when she said she was on birth control, I still wore condoms. She didn’t like it, but I didn’t care. This situation was exactly what I wanted to avoid. Samantha competed with my attention often enough to realize she was further down my priority list than she wanted to be, and also that I’d do anything for any child of mine, including making sure my child’s mother is well taken care of.

Samantha is anything but stupid.

I call my doctor and set up an appointment for bloodwork before I make a call to Sophie and ask her to prepare a child agreement and name the generous amounts I’m happy to give, including access time with my child, no matter who the mother is.

“Any name I need to add?” she asks.

“I’m just being careful,” I say.

“That is a very generous amount for being careful,” she says. “Let me know who and what when you’re ready and I’ll finish preparing the document. I sent through the Moss Creek information this afternoon to Adeline’s email address. You’re CCd,” she says.

“Do you know much about the program the state has for the tenants?” I ask.

I hear papers being flipped and Sophie answers slowly. “There’s nothing here. I’ll see if I can dig some information up for you.”

“Can you trace a name for me?” I ask on a whim.

“Sure. Who?” Sophie says.

“I only have a first name, but she lives in the same building. She’s young. Around twenty, maybe twenty-one. Might not be too hard to find her,” I say. “Search for Maddy. She could be a Madeline or a Madison, I’m not sure which.”

“Of course. I’ll make a few calls and get back to you when I know more,” Sophie says.

I thank her, end the call, and set my mind to work out how I’m going to get Adeline out of another building that needs to be condemned and permanently into my condo.

I want to think it’s because it will keep her safe, but that would be a lie. I don’t want to let her go.

I’m her biggest threat and she doesn’t know it.

Chapter 11

Adeline

“Good morning, Adeline.” My spine snaps to attention as David stalks into the elevator, all freshly showered, hair slicked and tailored business suit. The doors swish shut behind him and it’s only the two of us inside.

It’s too early for this sort of tension, but my libido doesn’t care that it’s seven thirty in the morning. It’s been switched to the on position all night. Dreams filled of David and what my subconscious wants to do to him; all the things, in all the ways.
