“Ella?”Cal noticed me. He stood at the end of the hallandI paused. He walked the rest of the way towards me.“Are you okay?”

“Yes. Of course.”

“You sure about that?”He raised an eyebrow.

“Everyone keeps asking me that.”

He blinked a few times.“Maybe there is a reason?”

There was more than one at this rate, but as I looked at Cal all the way away from me, I paused at one very specific one. I crossed my arms over myself.

Cal seemed to notice my hesitance.“What is it?”

“Are you even still attracted to me?”I asked.

“What are you talking about?”

“I just mean. I get that you are, I think,” I said. “I’m still here, anyway but…”

He chuckles. “You think?”

“Youhaven’tkissed me is all… since everything. You say that you wouldandmake moves like you would when we sleep together in the nestbut…”

Eyes widening, a look of understanding crossed his face.

Slowly, a heateddifferentlookstarted to transformhis expression, teeth grazing his lip as he took only a fewbigsteps to bridge the gap between us.

I was standing in front of the couch in the living roomandnow, I fell back onto it.

Cal leaned over the top of my frame until my heart took on a new beat. His body covered mine.

He pursued his lips as if in thought.“I see. Am I attracted to you? You have to be kidding me, beautiful. Andkissing you? It’sall I think about. The other daywhenyou walked back in here smelling like Liam. God, I felt like I died and gone to heaven. I was giving you some space as you figured things out. Ididn’twant to rush you. To be sure you wanted me…us.”

I stare at him.

Was he kidding? Icouldn’tstand for any more of his self-inflicted pain. I already told him how much he meant to me already. Icouldn'tcare less if he was an alpha. I was pretty sure I preferred it. Without Cal, Iwould’venever made it this far. Who knew whatwould’vehappened?

“Do you want me to kiss you, Ella?”He asked me.“Is that what has you pacing?”

“Partly,” I answered truthfully.

“You want me to kiss you like I used to when we were together? Like when it wasjustyou and meliketeenagers in the car whocouldn’tget enough of each other?”He asked.

God, that felt so long ago now.

It was. And itwasn’t.

I tipped my chin up as if that would make him move faster and just put his lips on mine already.

“Aren’t you going to answer?” asked Cal.

“Ithought Liam was the bossy one.”

He groaned.“Oh, how I hate that he still managed to beat me to getting to see you fall apart first.”

“He told you that.”

“Please, baby. It was written all over your face that day,”hemurmured into my ear.“And in your scent.”
