Cal slammed into my chest, wrapping his hands around my center.

I gasped for air, unsure what to do with my arms before he picked me up off the ground, only putting me back down on my toes when there was a grumble from the other alphas slowly surrounding us, guiding us towards the living room where I had no other option but to be carried into.

“Oh fuck, I’m so glad you’re okay and...” he paused, nose twitching before his mouth traveled up towards my ear. “You smell like Liam.”

“Space, Cal,” a raspy voice asserted, though he didn’t come closer from where he stood in the space between the couch and archway to the kitchen. His tattooed hands slipped into his pants pockets as he took in the scene of us.

Marko.

“Are you okay?” Marko’s dark eyes scanned me, voice gruff yet hinted with emotion. It was almost like they were all... worried.

About me.

But that made no sense.

The slam of the door made me jump as Liam’s heady chai scent along with my own floated up behind me. “She’s fine. Stop crowding her.”

Taking another deep breath, I couldn’t help the low buzz that settled in my bones since my time with Liam back at my apartment firing up another degree once again. Shutting my eyes, I held my breath until I could settle myself.

Cold showers for all, coming right up.

Wait, no. Not all of us– Not all of us taking a shower together at once.

I felt the heat spread up the back of my neck and into my cheeks, until I probably looked like a tomato.

As if a switch had turned, Cal took a step back to pace the room, giving me an open view to see not just an alpha or two like the ones I’d come in contact with within the house before, but all three of them standing around me, and they certainly did not look happy.

ELLA

“Ella.” The tallest alpha of the group sat in front of me. Elbows on knees, if I looked up from my hands, we’d be on the same level. “We’re really glad you’re safe.”

My forehead creased in confusion.

“What were you thinking running off like that before we even...” he drifted off as he studied me as if he wasn't sure what to fully make of me.

I wasn't the traditional omega. Clearly, he was finally seeing this. It looks like I wasn't just a disappointment to Liam who wanted a shiny, polished omega to bond or whatever they wanted with an omega.

That was their prerogative.

I still wasn't sure how to change mine when I'd been following the same goal for the past seven years. “You just don’t understand.”

“What?”

“I can’t do this. Please, don’t make me,” I said.

More narrowed eyes. “Do what?”

Be an omega.

A look crossed over Demetri’s face, just like the other night I could remember him putting socks on my feet for some reason, he looked almost sad. A little defeated, but only for a second as if he couldn’t let anyone else notice. You could blink and miss it.

“You have to understand that being out there is not safe,” he said.

“I do. I get that. Of course, I get that it isn’t safe out there. I’ve been living on my own for nearly a decade, you know. I’m not stupid,” I mumbled, wanting to look away.
