“I’m fine,” I tell him, taking in our surroundings as we drive on the highway. When we drive over a bridge, I look to my right and see nothing but water. “Is that the ocean?” I ask, feeling kind of dumb. I don’t know anything about Canada or its geography.
“That would be Humber Bay. It leads out to Lake Ontario. Might not be the ocean, but it’s fucking massive,” Griffin answers. “We can go to the beach if you want, but we’ll be visiting better places soon for a real beach experience.”
Getting bored of all the big buildings, I duck back in and sit down. “So, where are you playing?”
“Scotiabank Arena,” Zane answers. “Just for one night, then we leave Sunday for London. We’re playing two shows there, and then we’re off again.”
“But we have about two days of sightseeing between each stop, so don’t worry.” Everett smiles. “It’s going to be a lot, though. Are you okay with always being on your feet?”
I shrug. “I’m not one to sit still for long. I’m awake almost every night for hours and when I’m not working, I’m walking around Vegas for the fun of it. Sitting still means having too much time to think. And, well... getting lost in my mind wasn’t a fun place to be.” I give them a fake smile before looking out the window.
We get to the hotel not too long after, and I watch as the guys go from relaxed to tense. There’s something about it that I like. They’re big guys, alphas. As we pull up to the back door, they get out of the limo first before standing guard next to the door, waiting for me to get out. I’ve never been so fucking turned on.
My needy little omega heart is loving this way too much.
“Why are you acting like I’m the one who needs to be guarded?” I ask them as people in black suits stand by. The three of them surround me. Everett in the front, Zane to my left, and Griffin to my right.
“Because you do,” Zane responds. “You're not just an omega, you're our omega. Therefore, we will protect you until our dying breath. Get used to it, Trouble. There’s no talking your way out of this. You only got a small glimpse of us as alphas before. That’s nothing compared to how we are now.”
Damn it. Why do they have to say shit like that? How do I stay mad at them? How am I going to keep my distance when they say such perfect things?
They’re just words, Jade. You're an action person. Let them show you, not tell you.
“Boys!” A blonde woman cheers, practically getting in our faces the moment we step into the building. “Want to tell me why the hell none of you are answering your phones?”
I know right away that this is Gianna, and I already don’t like her. She could be the nicest person alive, but the possessive omega in me doesn’t give a single shit.
“Gianna, what are you doing here? I thought you weren't supposed to be here until later today?” Everett asks.
“If you had picked up your phones, you would have seen that I tried to call you. I wanted to let you know that my plans had changed after you decided to go to that club.” She scoffs the last word as if The High Roller is some nasty place, and my fists tighten.
Who the hell is she to judge my home? My work? “You would have known that I caught the next flight out here because I wanted to make sure everything was going as planned before your arrival. What I wasn’t expecting was for you to have moved your flight plan up a whole ten hours. Does someone want to tell me what the hell is going on?”
“Well... things changed.” Zane shrugged. “Something very important came up, and it became our top priority.”
“And what exactly was sooo important that it required you to ignore your phones?” she questions, sarcasm dripping from her tone. She also crosses her arms as if she was scolding them like they’re children. Is she for real? They’re grown men. I get that it’s her job to keep things running smoothly. But she’s not their damn keeper.
Zane wraps his arm around me, pulling me to his side. “Our omega.” Gianna’s eyes snap over to me, and I swear I see her face pale slightly.
“I’m sorry, your omega?” Gianna asks, pulling her attention away from me. “You went to The High Roller, decided that you now want an omega, and took one of theirs? Zane, how drunk are you?” She looks at Griffin. “And how many drugs have you taken?”
Wow. Yup, I don’t like her at all.
“No one is on anything, Gianna,” Everett replies. “We didn’t just convince an omega to come with us. Plus, she’s not just any omega. Remember Jade? The girl we’ve been looking for for years? The girl we used the label’s resources to try and find?”
“Yes.” Her eyes flick over to me quickly and back to him again. “The one you were never able to find. So, what? You finally gave up trying and moved on with your lives?”
My nostrils flare as anger builds inside of me. Would it be wrong of me to just punch her in the face? Would that be too much?
“We never gave up on finding her,” Zane growls, making Gianna’s eyes widen, as if she’s not used to being talked to that way by him. I preen on the inside as his arm tightens around me. “And now we have her. This is Jade. Jade, this is our manager, Gianna.”
“Nice to meet you.” I give her a tight smile but don’t bother offering her my hand.
“How do you know this is really Jade?” she asks, side-eyeing me. “She could just be an omega looking for a chance at some rich and famous men.”
“Are you for real right now?” Everett gapes at her. “What the hell, Gianna?”
“What?!” she huffs. “I’m just trying to look out for you. You do know the amount of people who try to lie and push their way into your lives. The amount of women who claim they're having your babies even though you’ve never slept with them. Do we even know anything about her? Did you look into her background?”
