He nodded. “The corpse by the harbor drew a lot of attention. Blogs and media companies have carried the news already. He’s taking care of it with Vlad.”
“Fuck.” I ran my fingers through my hair. This was damn serious. If news got out about our involvement with Viktor, the public would question our legitimate businesses. We had some men in the police department, but we couldn’t stop an investigation from happening if it got to that. We could only hope it didn’t.
“We need to find Paul and take care of him before he does anything more stupid than he already has,” I said, my stomach boiling with fury.
Nikolai bobbed his head. “There’s no sign of where it could be. Last we heard, he’d bought a mansion downtown, but that is unoccupied now.”
Right. It would be foolish of him to move around freely after stirring us up with shit like that and killing one of our men. “We’ll dispatch our men to every part of the city and make sure they find him.”
“That’s what I came to talk to you about,” he started. “Can’t we get the girl to help us? There’s no way she doesn’t know where her old man is hiding.”
I exhaled, biting my bottom lip as I considered his suggestion. “She doesn’t trust me. Not yet.”
Nikolai’s brow quirked. “If she trusts you enough to let you fuck her, then this will be a piece of cake. Am I wrong?”
I leaned back in my seat, squinting at my brother. “Where the hell did you get that information?”
He cleared his throat. “Giselle came home last night and wouldn’t stop blabbing about you and the girl. She thinks you’re in love with her.”
“Her name is Gianna, and I’m not comfortable discussing my sex life with you.”
“I take that as a yes.”
“That I fucked her?”
“That you’re in love with her.” He tapped his finger on the desk, and a smirk played on his lips. “You’re playing with fire. She’s the enemy’s daughter. She’ll betray you.”
I spared him with a glare. “Gianna is nothing like her father.”
He snorted, looking at me as if I was a darn fool. Maybe I was, but I knew Gianna better than he did. “Yet, she tried to kill.”
“There’s a misunderstanding. She thinks I killed her mother.” I paused and drew in a breath. “I don’t know the reason she thinks so, considering I’d never even met the woman, but that was the reason she tried to kill me.”
There was silence, followed by a hiss from Nikolai. “I’m not against your relationship with her or your love for her. You can’t control your heart, but remember, a lot of men in our world died because they trusted the women they loved.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t make it on that list.”
“You better not.”
“I have a call with Paul this morning,” I said, ignoring the stunned expression on Nikolai’s face as I broke the news. “The asshole said he had something to share. I don’t know what it is yet.”
“Maybe he wants to trade his daughter. She’s his only child.”
“Paul is worse than an animal; blood ties don’t matter to him.” I rubbed my temple. I couldn’t believe how disturbed I was about the call with Paul. I’d let that bastard get to me. “It’s two hours from now. You’re staying for breakfast?”
Nikolai rose to his feet. “No. It’s my turn to drive the kids to school today. After you make the call, let me know what it is about. Also, tighten the security around you. With a wild beast with Paul on the loose, we can’t be sure of what to expect.”
“I will.” I stood up, too and walked my brother to the foyer. “Tell Giselle I have some scores to settle with her.”
He chuckled lightly. “You know you can never win against her.”
I couldn’t win against any of the women in my life, it had become the norm. “I’ll give you a call later.”
Nikolai left, and I walked to the dining room where Gianna and I had made love two nights ago. Static traveled down my spine and worked its way to my dick.
I loved it all—the taste of her lips and her juices, the way she clenched around me and moaned my name. I wanted to fuck her again, rougher this time, and while whispering into her ears. I wanted her to ride my face and come on it.
Fuck, I was getting hard. There was so much I wanted, and I was going to get them with time.
