The two large guards escort me to my car, where I throw the bag of money in with the other one.

My phone rings, and I take it out.

Renat.

“Is she gone?” I ask, my way of answering my phone right now.

“Sir, she’s blacked out.”

My body temperature drops and I quickly order, “Take her to the clinic. I’ll meet you there.”

I jump into the car. I don’t give a fuck about the money right now. We have a private clinic for our family, and Renat is going to take Asher straight there.

I try to push through traffic, but it’s backed up for some odd reason. There must be an accident or something. Typical!

I take a back road to try to take another route, but it’s just as backed up. I’m starting to panic. Why would she black out? What could be wrong? I don’t want her, but I don’t want her to be hurt. I want her to live a good life. I want her dreams to come true because, despite the fact she broke my heart, I love her.

I finally pass the scene of the accident, some idiots who crashed head-on in an intersection, and I put my foot down. The engine roars to life, and I speed the rest of the way. Luckily, I encounter no cops along the way. I’m at the clinic in no time. I see Renat’s car there, and I hurry in.

“What is it?” I ask Renat.

“They’ve taken her in now. They said to wait here.” He puts a hand on my shoulder. “I think she just fainted. They’ll check and let us know.”

I pace the room. “She just fainted? Just all of a sudden? I’ve known Asher for a long time; she doesn’t just faint.”

Renat watches me, and eventually, he sits down, bouncing his leg up and down. He’s nervous for me.

I take out my phone and text Kervyn to tell him about Asher and to tell him I’ll drop the money off later. He reads my message but doesn’t respond.

He must be busy.

I pace for another fifteen minutes before I also sit down. I keep looking up whenever someone walks out of the back area where the rooms are.

“I can’t take this waiting.” I stand up again and walk to the receptionist's desk. There’s no one there, and I stand there, waiting.

A nurse comes around the corner. “Sir, the doctor will be with you shortly.”

“Is it serious? Did she hurt herself?” I ask. “I just need to know.”

“The doctor has finished his examination now. You can speak to him shortly.”

I sigh and sit back with Renat.

The doors to the clinic open, and Kervyn walks in. “Danil.”

I get up.

“Have you heard anything?” he asks.

“Not…” I turn around as I hear footsteps behind us. “That must be the doctor now.”

We both step forward and wait for the doctor. He stops in front of us. “She’s fine,” he says straight away, holding up a hand.

“Why did she faint?” I ask immediately.

“She was dehydrated and clearly exhausted. She probably hasn’t slept properly for a few days. Couple that with the pregnancy, and it’s a recipe for disaster.” He smiles. ‘But she’ll be fine.”

“Pregnancy?” I ask.
