“Lie down with me,” I said, and he smiled and took my hand to lead me to the bed.

He took off his clothes and then mine. When I tried to help with my own, he pushed my hands away and then when he was done, he pushed my legs back so he could settle himself between them. He stared down at me then as he raised one eyebrow.

“Are you suppressing your pheromones?”

I blushed and nodded. “Just while we were here at the palace. And especially while we were talking to your king. I didn’t want to distract anyone. I thought it best.”

“Did you now? Those are my decisions, love. Harrison is a grown man who can control himself and you’re not in heat. Besides, I happen to like the way you smell.”

I blushed as he wet his finger and pressed the tip against me, massaging and stretching me a little to get me ready. I had my own secretions, but they weren’t as much as normal, since I’d used my magic on them. At the same time, he was seducing me with soulful kisses. I was still tight, even though we’d made love only a day ago, but he was also large. He found some oil in a drawer close to the bed and lavished it over his fingers, and then he eased one finger up inside me again. I moaned, and he added another finger a few seconds later, spreading me more. My muscles quivered and contracted around his fingers, and he kissed me again. Another finger slipped inside, and I groaned at the discomfort, but he looked down at me with yearning in his eyes.

He seemed to know what I was feeling, an intense pressure and pleasurable burn that was just this side of too much. He swept a finger over the spot deep inside me that he knew would light me up. Every time Asher touched me or did that to me, my insides blazed with heat, and I swore that I could see stars no matter what time of night or day it was. I tried to slam down on his fingers but with one more tap on that spot and another slow rub, he pulled his fingers away and left me spasming for more. “N-no! Wait,” I groaned, and he nuzzled my throat. “Come back.”

“Shhh…” he said, stroking a hand over my leaking cock. “Wait, sweetheart.” He splashed some of the oil over me. With one long, smooth stroke, he sheathed himself to the hilt inside my body. I made a harsh, gasping noise, and he kissed the inside of my knee. “Tell me when to move.”

“Now,” I sighed and began to thrust gently along with his long, slow strokes that almost made me weep with pleasure. I had been afraid he’d never be like this with me ever again. I knew I was overreacting and being foolish, but he meant so much to me. I’d hated feeling estranged from him even for a short time.

I was still new to sex, so the burning and the sting made everything even more intense. He crooned to me under his breath and when he changed angles and raked over the spot inside me with his cock the way he knew I enjoyed, I moaned with pleasure. I tried to lift my hips more beneath him to make him do it again, harder, but I had to be content with the long, slow strokes that were all he wanted to give me then.

I was shuddering and trembling as he made love to me, but nothing I could do would make him change his slow rhythm. It was like he was claiming me again, like he’d done before, and he wanted me to realize that nothing could ever change the way he felt for me. I tried to show him I felt the same way with everything I had. I felt as if I were fighting for us, and this was a battle I had to win.

“Please,” I begged, wanting him to give me more and faster, and finally he answered by thrusting even deeper inside me. He thrust his tongue into my mouth, shutting off the constant moans and pleading as he pushed into me again and again.

He rotated his hips and thrust harder, forcing himself deeper inside. It was fast, his cock slamming into me, his knot snuggling against my ass, trying to fit inside. At the same time, he was stroking my cock, and my eyes rolled back in my head, as I made wordless, desperate sounds. A tidal wave of excitement washed over me as he pushed harder and his knot slid inside, spinning my senses around and drowning me in passion, as an orgasm shot through me, hitting me hard.

“Come for me,” he groaned, and a flood of hot semen filled me as mine splashed against his chest. My orgasm went on a long time and soon led to another, which was only possible because of his knot. All I could do was clutch at him, hoping we could save each other, as we both gasped for breath, and I clung to him for dear life. I’d been thoroughly claimed and fucked, and I’d never imagined it could feel like this. I wondered if it felt the same way for every omega, or if I had just gotten extremely lucky.

At some point we both fell asleep, still wrapped tightly together. I decided it was the best way to fall asleep ever, and I wondered if we could do this every night.

Compelling the stable hands was easy enough as they were all asleep when we arrived. I just whispered a suggestion that if they heard a noise, they should realize it was only a dream and then deepen their sleep a bit more. I quickly saddled the Igellan captain’s horse. It turned to look curiously at me but was well trained and stood perfectly still for me. I attached our side packs, and then turned for Leo, who was standing nervously by, trembling a little. It could have been a chill, as it was a clear and exceedingly cold night, or maybe it was just nerves. I mounted the horse, a black mare with a white forelock, and then extended a hand for Leo. I pulled him up and deposited him in front of me, settling him with his cape wrapped around him, as well as a fur I’d brought from our room. The horse shuffled her feet restlessly and turned her head to look back at me, showing me the whites of her eyes, but I spoke softly and reassured her, and she soon settled.

I rode her out into the city streets, and we were finally on our way through the city gates and out onto the open road. The moon and the stars watched us silently from overhead, lighting our way, and I already felt less anxious and worried.

The wind was fierce, however, and I pulled my fur-lined cape more tightly around me. In my lap, Leo was shivering, so I pulled him closer to share my body heat. I could feel him drifting off after a while, but his body was still racked with an occasional deep chill, and I was afraid he might get sick if this cold didn’t relent. I reached into the etheric flow and converted some energy into heat, infusing the cape I was wearing with a bit of that kinetic energy and then spreading it over both of us and the horse.

Leo sighed and snuggled deeper against me, and I was able to relax a bit too. We still had a bit of a long journey ahead of us, and I didn’t want to stop until we were much farther away from Thalia. I considered again the possibility that I was getting too old for all this, and I needed to stop soon and settle down with my omega and perhaps raise a few children. I’d always wanted a daughter to spoil, like Lex was doing with his little girl. A boy who looked like Leo would be nice too or maybe one like me. All three would be nice, actually, but I didn’t want to scare Leo by mentioning it. I didn’t ever want to risk him either. We had plenty of time.

We rode all through the night, stopping only near dawn when I was too tired to keep going. I quickly pulled Leo down beside me and put him on a pile of bags and furs, and then I built a blazing fire, using magic, of course. I was too tired for much else. I tethered and settled the horse, giving her food and water, and then finally I was able to turn back to Leo. He had the furs spread out and heaped up and was already lying near the fire under the covers. I dived in beside him, spreading my cape over us both.

“Just a little nap,” I told him, burying my cold face in the covers. But the “little nap” turned into a long one, and I didn’t wake up until the sun was high in the sky. Leo was already up, sitting by the fire and warming his hands.

“I was just about to wake you,” he said, turning toward me. “Do you know where we are?”

“Yes, we’re on the road to Marikosh, your old village. About ten miles away, I’d say. We made really good time last night.”

He pointed to the mountains I could see in the distance. “Those mountains are along the border to Igella. I ran there after my family was attacked and that’s where Grimora found me all those years ago.” He shook his head. “Poor Grimora,” he said softly. “I miss him so much.”

“I know you do, love. Now, should we make coffee and have a little something to eat?”

“If you like.”

I got up and went to my packs to get out a small pot and a packet of coffee, along with some bread and a portion of beef left over from Lex’s supper the night before. He hadn’t touched the food but had wrapped it in a napkin for us. It was the best he could do without summoning the kitchen staff. I hadn’t wanted to risk alerting anyone to what we were doing either. Someone had obviously been paying attention to our comings and goings since we arrived at Harrison’s castle. I thought now that it must have been Harrison and his spies. I’d packed and brought along the grimoire with us as well, in case someone decided to search our room after they found out we’d gone.

The books of dark magic Harrison had mentioned earlier were just books, after all, though they could be a bit dangerous to the uninitiated or uneducated or those who were just learning magic. I didn’t believe in banning or destroying any kind of books, no matter their content. What it really meant was banning ideas and trying to control people’s access to information about those ideas. It stifled independent thought, and I believed that was inherently wrong.
