“Exactly.”
“We need to get to Harrison as soon as possible and let him know what’s going on. As soon as Leo is able to travel, we need to be on our way.”
“Agreed. But first, you need to find me a priest. I plan to claim Leo and marry him before we go.”
Lex looked a little surprised but smiled and nodded. “Is tomorrow too soon?”
I grinned. “That depends on how he feels tonight. If he’s better, I’m going to claim him.”
He clapped me on the shoulder, and they left. Rory was still mostly asleep and leaning on Lex who had an arm around his waist, supporting him.
The door closed behind them and the curtains by the bed opened to reveal a beautiful little irritated face. “Was I going to be consulted about any of this, or does what I want not matter?” Leo asked, showing me he’d heard every word I’d said.
I leaned over him, trying to appear casual.
“It matters. Does that mean you’re planning on turning me down?”
He looked confused for a moment. “No, I-I… don’t want to do that. But don’t you think you should have told me first? Maybe tried to seduce me a little and talk me into it?”
I straightened up and leaned against the bedpost, staring down at him. “Just what do you know about being seduced?”
“A little,” he said with a shrug. Possessiveness and jealousy raced through me. “Give me names,” I said.
He looked up at me in alarm. “I don’t have any. I mean, I wasn’t being truthful. I’ve never kissed a man before you. Or been with anyone…” he lowered his voice. “Intimately.”
I felt better immediately and relaxed a little. “Tell me what you know about that.”
“Nothing personally, but I’ve heard things. Sort of. I eavesdropped a little on Brandon and the pirate when they came to the cave. They were always arguing, but they ended up in bed together when they were done and there was a lot of moaning and some squealing.”
I grinned, wondering if it had been Brandon or Roxbury who’d squealed. I planned on making the most of that information when I saw them again.
“I asked Grimora about it and he explained.”
“What in the world did Grimora tell you?”
“He said they were in love and that happens when people are in love.”
“And what about you, Leo? Are you in love?”
He looked up at me, startled, and dropped his eyes. His face turned a sweet shade of pink. “I don’t want to be in love.”
“Oh, really? Why is that?”
“It’s not good to be in love. Not when you’re in it all by yourself.”
I moved closer to him, sitting down on the side of the bed and taking his hand in mine. I idly played with his fingers. The scent of dusky roses was strong on the bedclothes and was filling my head with lustful ideas.
“What if you weren’t all by yourself? What if someone was in it with you? What if it was me?”
“You? But you’re not. You’re not in love with me.”
“How do you know?”
“B-because you’re just not. You’re a noble and religious and you have good magic. One day you’ll go to heaven, and I wouldn’t be able to follow you.”
“Maybe I wouldn’t want to go if you couldn’t come too. Maybe I’d go to hell with you, just to keep you company. Just because I couldn’t be without you.”
His eyes got huge then as I bent to taste him. When I pulled away, he leaned up to kiss the corner of my mouth very sweetly, and I laid him down on his back and murmured a few words to make his clothing move out of the way. They seemed eager to fall apart, as did mine, and within seconds, I had him naked in my arms, and I pulled his sweet body under me.
