“What do you mean? Did I do something wrong?” Juliana asks, worried.
“No, no. Everything that happened tonight was natural and normal,” I tell her and she lets out a breath of relief. “I just mean, if you want to talk about how our relationship is escalating.”
“Our relationship?” Juliana asks. I chuckle.
“Well, we live together because of our fake relationship but I feel like we are developing a real one. Especially after tonight and lately, we have been getting closer,” I explain. “So, I thought we should probably talk about what this means.”
“Oh, okay,” Juliana says, her pulse picking up. She looks over at me and we are almost nose to nose, lying next to each other. “So, is this where I’m supposed to ask ‘what are we’?” Juliana says with a giggle. I roll my eyes but don’t mind the joke.
“Basically,” I admit.
“Okay, so… what are we?” Juliana asks with a little smirk on her face.
“Well, I’m not sure,” I admit honestly. “I know that we are not fiancés, obviously.” Juliana nods and waits patiently with a little smile on her face. “But I also know that we are definitely more than friends.”
Juliana moves closer to me and we both turn our bodies to face each other. I pull her leg over my hip and hold onto the back of her thigh. We stare into each other’s eyes, each trying to read the other’s thoughts.
“Definitely more than friends,” Juliana repeats back to me. “So, what does that mean?”
“I don’t know.” The response bums both of us out but I don’t think either of us knows how to define this budding relationship. I don’t know that we could or should put a label on it when we are already pretending to be fiancés.
“Maybe we will think of the answer after a good night’s sleep,” Juliana suggests.
“Yeah, maybe.”
Juliana leans in and kisses me softly. I press my lips firmly against her and she parts her mouth for me. We spend another hour or so kissing and just touching each other. Her hands are nervous at first but grow more confident over time as she explores my body. We kiss until we grow tired and fall asleep in each other’s arms.
Chapter 43
Kurt
I wake up before my alarm goes off and find Juliana wrapped around me. Her hair is spread out over my chest and her arm is wrapped around my stomach while her legs are intertwined with mine. The connection makes my heart beat faster. She looks so beautiful right now. The light is streaming in from the side of the curtain and it’s casting a line over her back. We are both fully clothed and the heat between us is making me sweat.
I reach over to try to grab my phone off my nightstand to turn off my alarm before it goes off. While reaching for it, Juliana stirs. She yawns and opens her eyes slowly.
“Good morning,” I say and she looks up at me from her perch on my chest. She yawns again and then sits up, stretching a little as she untangles herself from me.
“Good morning,” Juliana says through a yawn. “How did you sleep?” She asks and I can tell she is already thinking about our conversation last night. I wonder if she found any clarity while sleeping, I know that I did not.
“I slept alright, how about you?” I sit up beside her, resting my hand on her thigh.
“Me too.” Juliana nods. “So, did you find an answer?” She asks, looking nervous.
“No, I gotta admit, I was pretty tired. I don’t think I thought about anything,” I tell her and she nods, smiling a little.
“Okay, good because me too. I passed out and there was nothing going on in here,” Juliana says, poking the side of her head with a laugh. “Glad we are on the same page, then.”
“Exactly,” I say then I lean over and kiss her gently, still thrilled I get to do that now without worrying what she might think. “Should I not do that until we figure this out?” I ask when I pull back, hoping she will disagree. Juliana’s eyes are still closed from the kiss but she opens them slowly.
“Oh no, I think kissing is okay.” Juliana smiles and bites her lip. She is extra playful this morning. Her hand rests on my chest, her fingers rubbing gently.
“Good.” I lean in and kiss her again, moving over her to deepen the kiss. She slides back down until we are lying together but then my alarm goes off and I curse myself for forgetting about it when she woke up. “Shit, I guess we have to get up now.”
“Mmm,” Juliana moans against my lips. “Five more minutes. Just hit snooze or something.”
I chuckle but let her pull me back down to kiss some more while my alarm continues to go off. After a few seconds, the alarm gets louder and Juliana groans, letting go of me.
“Never mind, shut that off, please.”
