“He said there was another girl that went missing from Haven,” Rumor says. “We have identified one of the other gammas as Cassandra Delmar, another dancer from Central City at a different club—one that Tomi owned as well.”
“They are all dancers,” I whisper, tears burning my eyes. I flip the coffee maker on, and with nothing else to do, I turn around. “They are all going to be the lowest class. I’d bet my entire career on it. This is huge.” I sniffle.
“Which is why I agree you need protection,” Bryn says, surprising me. “Whoever is behind this won’t come after you because you aren’t important, but because the city knows you. Not to mention that you are a bit of a social media sensation.”
“I’m no one.” It is pointless to argue. Sin came up with a bullshit excuse that I needed protection just to knot me.
“I can tell you believe that, but those words are a lie, Sawyer. They just aren’t true. You’ve done more for gammas than anyone ever has, and it sounds like, and correct me if I’m wrong” —he gives me a look that’s all alpha, one that screams don’t you dare lie to me— “but you aren’t just going to let this go.”
“No,” I whisper. My coffee begins to sputter and spit into the maker. “What was on the papers?” I ask Rumor, knowing he probably already looked at them.
“A contract and a business card for Tomi’s other club. It seems his manager was trying to recruit girls from Haven,” he replies. “I figured we’d pay the business a visit today.” There’s a dare in his voice, a challenge I’m foolish enough to accept.
“I’m going to need clothing, and I have to head to the newsroom.” My day forms in my mind as I blow out a breath. “Schedule an appointment for later, and I’ll meet you there.”
All three men laugh at me as though that’s the funniest joke they have ever heard.
“Oh, princess, I don’t fucking think so,” Sin purrs.
“We’re your bodyguards, whether you like it or not,” Bryn adds.
Rumor nods. “Let me call my boss. I’m not leaving your side.”
What the hell?
Bryn
Every single instinct I possess tells me this woman is mine.
From how her button nose lifts when she lies, to how her full lips twitch when she’s trying to hide her amusement. Her curves beg for me to grab her—an indulgence that I allowed myself when she nearly bounced off my chest while she tried to make her great escape.
Sawyer.
She may not remember me, but I remember her. I remember the way she moaned when my fingertips glided over her skin and the way she submitted to every delicious whim I demanded of her.
Drop to your knees. I recall how hard I commanded the words, how my need rose fast and furious. I couldn’t control myself, and when she slid over my thick knot and begged me to rut her, I obliged.
Now here she is, once again, in the flesh. I let her go years ago because the promise was just one night.
It was a mistake I’ve regretted ever since, one I won’t make again.
That fateful night, I found her where she wasn’t supposed to be, spying on a place she shouldn’t have been. Rumor and I found her there in the woods, phone in hand, recording the orgy full of horny alphas and gammas who never should have snuck away.
I wonder if he remembers her as I do, or if the lust of that night blurred his memories. We used a scent clip on her nose and covered her eyes with silk as we ravished her.
She wouldn’t remember us or our scents, but we remembered her.
As a young adult, I knew she was my fate, and I willingly let her go. As a gamma, she couldn’t be my omega and could never anchor a pack, so I let her go. A foolish thought.
Like I said, I’m not letting her go this time, and I will ask Rumor if he remembers her just as soon as I can get him alone.
Wearing nothing but Sin’s sweats and an oversized T-shirt, she directs us to her apartment in Central City. Cobblestone streets rumble under the tires of Rumor’s vehicle as we pull down a small road that only allows one vehicle, but somehow, it’s a two-way street.
I glance at Sin, who’s sitting beside me, and watch as his scowl deepens. The farther we drive into the city, the more he wears his distaste.
He will open his mouth and piss her off if he isn’t careful.
While any other day, I’d enjoy that, today is not the day for it.
