He glances down and shrugs. “Not like most people haven’t seen one before.”

“Except I don’t need anyone else seeing yours.” I can’t stop from growling as I speak, which only serves to make his smile grow wider.

“It’s okay, Mate. You’re mine and I’m yours,” he promises. “No matter what anyone else sees, I only see you.”

The distance between us is quickly swallowed up when we both lunge for one another. It doesn’t matter that we’re in public and anyone could be watching. The need to touch and kiss him is too strong to ignore any longer.

His hands grasp my face as he pulls me impossibly close, his lips on mine, tasting me with a vigor I happily match.

“I thought I lost you,” I murmur between kisses.

“Nobody can take me from you that easily.”

Gods, I hope not.

I’ve only known the man mere days, but I can’t picture a life without him in it any longer.

My hands cover his chest, and the feel of his heart beating beneath my palm calms the last of my nerves. My eyes suddenly do a double take. “Your wolf tattoo. It’s gone. Like all the way gone.”

He glances down but doesn’t seem the least bit worried. “It wasn’t there before Kel, so it makes sense that it’s not there now. I’m taking that as a good thing.”

I sense a hesitation from him through our bond, but when he doesn’t add anything further, I let the oddity go. It’s been an eventful morning, and we need to take this as a win.

I kiss him once more, then step farther away. “Shift and we’ll head back to talk.”

This time, he doesn’t make a joke, and any worry-filled rage I’d momentarily pushed down is right back at the surface.

Something tells me we’re not even close to being free of Kel even if Drake has his wolf back, but that’s going to change and soon. I’ll make damn sure of that.

Chapter 20

DRAKE

Heading back to the house, we first make a stop at a clothing store where Spencer buys me some clothes. I stay in my wolf form, waiting to change until I’m in the backyard of Kasha’s place.

Everyone is inside as I go into the shed and dress quickly. When I come back out, Spencer is looking up as if she’s inspecting the sky.

“What’s wrong?” I ask her, adjusting the waist of the jeans that are one size too small.

She keeps her gaze up for another second before facing me. “Just wondering if we’ll know when Kel shows up.”

My chest tightens at the mention of the witch. I have to tell Spencer what happened after I first shifted, but I don’t regret the extra time we were able to spend together in our wolf forms.

I trace my fingers over the two puncture marks on her shoulder from my beast. “Didn’t that one shifter say we should head North? I wouldn’t worry about her coming here.”

“Lia. I almost forgot about that little interaction.” Spencer sighs, then grabs my hand. “Later today, we can go back to town with the coins I’ve traded for so you can get some proper clothes and a ring like mine. I have plenty of magic to trade that isn’t just from Natalia.”

My hand intertwines with Spencer’s as I nod toward the house. “Let’s go check on Cara and Peter, then we can figure out the rest.”

A crease forms between her brows. “You wanted to tell me something.”

“It can wait until later,” I say honestly. “Nothing is going to change right now.”

At least I hope so.

I didn’t much care for our run-in with the unknown shifters last night, but with my wolf back, I’m thinking a bit more clearly.

Lia had mentioned us heading north, and as soon as Natalia has what will hopefully help us, that’s exactly what I intend to do.
