He grunts, then grabs my shoulders and directs me back to the car. “Sit down.”

I open my mouth to disagree with him, but the glare he sends my way has me keeping my snark to myself.

I don’t know who has possessed the jovial man from earlier, but I’m just a tiny bit afraid of this one.

Once I’m seated on the edge of the back seat with my feet resting on the ground, Kyler goes around to the trunk and opens it up, digging through shit I didn’t even know was back there. He comes back with a med kit in his hand that he places on my lap to open.

I try to watch, but looking over makes my head pound, so I shift my gaze to stare over his shoulder. “I’m going to be fine,” I say to him, hoping he doesn’t intend to poke at me too much. Otherwise, I’ll be repaying the favor.

He doesn’t respond, and I’m halfway through asking what he’s so furious about so I can stop wondering, but I don’t get to finish.

Something cold covers one of my wounds and then burns so badly, I can no longer control my movements. Without consciously doing so, I first punch Kyler in the face then kick him in the balls as I screech, “What the fuck?!”

One of his hands holds his junk, and the other pinches the bridge of his now-bleeding nose. “What the fuck is right!”

My hands cover my face as I quickly mutter, “I’m so sorry.”

Instead of getting up, he lies back on the ground and just groans.

I think I’ve officially broken him.

Chapter Twenty

Kyler

Iprobably should have seen that coming, but my mind is a total fucking mess. Fighting for our lives aside, when my wolf locked gazes with hers, there was something there.

No, not something. A damn bond.

The energy that ignited in our chest and intensity of the pull to go toward her nearly brought me to my knees. If it hadn’t been for all the fucking blood and my terror of watching her bleed out just like I’d done with Cara, I would have wept with joy at Sophie’s feet.

Thankfully, logical thinking took over. I had to get her out of there and that knife out of her wolf’s body. The entire race back to the car, not knowing if more wolves were going to find us, not being sure I had it in me to protect her after the hits I’d taken… It was more than I could handle.

Now, for my trouble, I might have a broken nose and bruised balls.

This day has turned out to be one hell of a roller coaster.

“Seriously, Ky,” she pleads, her hands still over her mouth, muffling her words. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

I force myself up from the ground but stay on my knees right in front of her. Gently, I pull at her wrists until I can see her face. “I’m fine.”

“No, you’re blee?—”

I cut her off, grabbing her cheeks and kissing the hell out of her. I can’t wait another moment. My body needs her too damn much.

Her fingers grab on to my shoulders, nails scratching over my skin as she deepens the kiss. Our tongues tangle and this time, there isn’t a moment’s hesitation from either of us.

Until I realize I need to know something more than I need her touch.

She growls softly when I pull back, making me smile as she pouts. “I wasn’t done.”

The pad of my thumb brushes over her lips. “Neither was I, but I have a question for you.”

That has her tensing and going quiet.

“You felt that back there,” I say. “The connection of a bond.”

Her eyes go wide, and she shivers beneath my hands before she finally nods.
