Page 58 of Could Be Worse

I slowed my speed and tried to read her mind. Did she mean what I hoped she meant?

“Ask me, Bryce.” Her eyes shimmered with emotion.

“Sadie Quinn, will you marry me?” God, I prayed those were the words she wanted to hear.

“Yes, Bryce Nelson, I will marry you.” Her legs went around my hips and her arms hooked around my neck. “I’m so ready to be your wife.”

“I’m without words.” And my boner was getting soft. I wanted to finish making love to her, so I resumed the activity and kissed her until we both went off the cliff of orgasmic bliss.

Afterward, I held Sadie against my chest while we caught our breath. I had never imagined having this life with such an amazing, loving, kind woman. And her MC family was just as incredible. They’d welcomed the girls and me into the fold, and I was grateful for all they’d done for me the past two years. My business was thriving and so was Sadie’s dance school. We had several babysitters we could rely on for our weekly date night. Cat and Tori had dozens of aunties and uncles, and they had been calling Zander pop-pop, and Jaynee nana, since last Christmas. It’d only been a matter of time before Sadie and I had made it official.

“Do you have a day in mind, baby?” I kissed her head and caressed her back.

“Yes, how about next fall? Something simple and outdoors at the clubhouse, before it gets too cold.”

“Sounds good to me.”

“But we can’t tell anyone until after Dante’s welcome home party. I’d hate to steal the attention away from him.”

Snorting, I shook my head. “I doubt that is possible. I overheard Birdie and Ember talking about him. Poor guy has no clue what he’s coming home to.”

“Well, serves him right for ghosting them the past eighteen months. My dad said he was just sowing his oats, and he’s free to do so.” She lifted her head and stared at me. “Can you believe that? How can he give him a pass like that? If Dante was in love with one of them, he shouldn’t be screwing around.”

“I don’t know, Sunshine. But it’s not like Dante is with either of them. He has done nothing wrong, and Birdie’s made it clear they’re only friends.” I knew she’d been pining after Raymond, but nothing had happened between them. Sadie had doubted those two would ever make their feelings publicly known. Not sure why Storm and Angel hadn’t forced the issue, but I imagined it had to do with not wanting their Birdie to leave the nest.

“Yes, but what about Ember?”

“She has a boyfriend, doesn’t she?”

She rolled her eyes. “They’re only dating.”

“Then I don’t see the problem. She’s screwing around just like Dante.”

“I suppose.”

“Daddy? Sadie? We’re awake,” Cat said in a soft voice from the other side of our bedroom door. After Sadie moved in with us, we kept the door closed and had a baby monitor on the nightstand so we could hear them. We’d also taught the girls to knock and wait for us to tell them when it was okay to enter. Finding us naked or in the act wouldn’t be good.

“We’ll be out in a minute.” I hugged Sadie one last time before we started the day.

“Okay,” Cat replied.

“Do you want to tell the girls at breakfast?” I asked Sadie.

“Yes. I’ll make pancakes. But remember, we’re not telling my family until after Dante’s homecoming party.”

“Yes, my love. But I suspect it will be a bitterly cold event.”
