She smiles. “We’re young. We have all the time in the world.”

“I know, but I want to marry you, have kids, do all of it now. I want to experience it all with you.”

She tosses the towel in her hamper, then kisses me quickly. “We will. I want all that too.”

Twenty minutes later, we leave her apartment and I ask her if she minds if we make a pit stop on the way to my place. She doesn’t care, so when I park my car outside of Nico’s place, she smiles.

“Is this a business deal?” she asks.

“Yeah.”

“Should I stay in the car?”

I open her door. “If we’re going to be married, you deserve to know what I’m doing with our money. So no, you don’t stay in the car. You sit at the table with me.” I hold my hand out for her.

“This is your money. Your trust fund.”

“It’s our money as soon as we’re married. Even if you sign that stupid prenup, it’s ours, and the decisions I make with it will affect our lives.”

We walk into the restaurant, and Nico spots us right away as he’s talking to some customers at another table. When I grab Kenzie’s hand, Nico does a double take. His mouth hangs open as we slide into a booth.

Nico approaches us and says carefully, “I’m sorry, this was Mr. Asbury’s fiancée.”

Kenzie giggles, and I laugh.

“She’s my fiancée now.”

Nico looks at Kenzie’s empty left ring finger.

“Well, not yet, but she will be very soon. Anyway, did you get the paperwork?” I ask.

Nico holds up his finger and goes to his office before returning with some papers.

“Did you have your lawyer look them over?” I want to make sure he knows what he’s getting into.

“I did.” He nods.

“Any changes?”

“No. It was all very generous of you,” he says.

“It’s fair, Nico. I just wanted to stop in and make sure you were good. The money will transfer as soon as you sign that and send it back to my lawyer.” I put out my hand, and Nico shakes it.

“You saved me.”

I shrug. “You saved me too. Thanks for allowing me to buy into your business.”

Nico looks at Kenzie. “He thanks me.” He shakes his head. “He’s good one. I hope you know that.”

She laughs. “I do. I’ve known it for a long time.”

“Now I bring you food.” Nico leaves.

I slide closer to Kenzie, putting my arm around her.

“This makes you happy?” she asks.

I nod. “It does. Maybe one day I’ll open my own place and hire some chefs. I’m not sure but don’t worry. I know restaurants are risky business, but I’ll never jeopardize our future.”
