Xavier’s back hits the concrete, no mat to soften the blow.
Holy shit. It worked. It’s hard to hide my triumphant smile, Xavier groaning, his face to the sky. “Send that message to my father.”
“Mia?”
My eyes squeeze shut when I register whose voice that is.
Hell …
Turning around, Eve stares, her eyes wide. She steps towards me in jewel-encrusted flats, her eyes squinting. Pulling my hoodie up, I’m hoping she hasn’t noticed me, but before I turn away, the hoodie flies off my head.
Eve steps in front of me, a grin curling on her lips. She knows she has me. “Look girls, it’s Mia Merlo.” Eve’s prissy apostles stand on either side of me, Xavier still on the ground a couple of feet away. “You wait until Dean McQueen hears about your trespassing and your assault on campus.”
“Listen, Eve--"
“Oh, I’m listening.” Her hands land on her hips. “I’d love to hear whatever lies are about to come from your mouth.”
“We fucked her.”
A smirk appears on my face, one almost as wide as Eve’s. “How about you wait until the school hears how you fucked Lev and Vlad?” Her friend gasps, Greta from Dom’s class. And with the way Eve’s mouth flattens, Vlad wasn’t lying.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Eve glances between her friends. “She’s lying!”
“Am I?” I take a step closer to her. “Or is that video on Vlad’s phone a coincidence?”
Her shoulders drop, her voice lowering to a whisper. “What do you want, Merlo? Are you as deadly as your father?”
“Stop taking out your grief on me. If you want a friend, seek one out instead of using people who use you for your power.” My eyes narrow. “Oh, and remember, you never saw me.” With a pat on her shoulder, I move past her, leaving Xavier behind me. I hear my dad in my words, ruthless and vile, but she had it coming to her. “Oh, and can you tell McQueen this guy tried to assault me?” A smile sticks on my face as I walk towards the dorms, pulling the hoodie over my head.
This is another way the twins helped me out. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to thank them.
“Mia?” Chaya whispers my way as I approach the dorms, a worried look on her face.
I hurry to her. “I’m so sorry, I—”
“Let’s just get you inside.” She hustles me in.
I wait until we’re at her dorm door to tell her what happened. I can't wait to share my win on Eve, but I don’t know if I can. It reminds me of what I no longer have.
Them.
I need to do something.
"You're right." Turning to Chaya, I commit to it. “It’s time I talk to Milo and Lucie. Alone.”
She unlocks the door, nodding as she swings it open.
“Talk to Milo and Lucie about what?”
Uh, that's not Chaya's voice.
“Milo?”
Chapter Thirty-Five
Milo Murphy leans against the wall of our dorm, one foot against it as he twirls a gold-tipped cigarette between his fingers. Russians.
His green eyes wander the room before he asks, “Talk to Milo and Lucie about getting your boyfriends back?”
