Page 50 of Mayhem

I don’t know who sent her those messages, but I promise I will figure it out. It must be the same person that left that note in her room. I haven’t told the guys about what I saw yet. Midas is already on the warpath, ready and wanting to kill those guys Serena was flirting with earlier. Not that I blame him. I don’t know what I was feeling when I saw her with those two douchebags earlier. All I know is I hated what I felt. I wanted to grab her away from them and kill them for even looking at her.

I also want to kill Midas right now. I know it’s not his fault, but we were finally getting Serena. Then Valerie had to happen. I don’t know what she told Midas, but it was enough to make him back away from Serena and force us out. I went to her house the next day, trying to apologize, but she wouldn’t listen. I don’t blame her. After the night we spent with her, which was the perfect night, and then to go back to Valerie. She has to be hurt.

Odin has been constantly pissed off at Midas too. They are barely speaking unless necessary right now. I know he isn’t staying away from Serena. He has been noticeably absent lately. At least someone is keeping an eye on her.

I still don’t know who would be ballsy or stupid enough to leave that note and send those texts to Serena. Whoever it is, they are going to learn the hard way. You don’t mess with my girl. I don’t even know if I can call her that anymore, but it feels so wrong not to. I will get her, no matter what.

We walk behind Serena as she and Evie walk to Serena’s car. I watch them talk for a minute before they hug, and Serena gets in her car. There is this undeniable urge to go after her, but I don't. I know she doesn't want to see me, and Midas would kill me if I did. Serena pulls out of the school parking lot and takes off. When she is finally out of sight, we give each other a look and walk to the football field.

Kirk and Ryan are the stars of the football team. We sit on the bleachers and watch while the team runs some drills. A big game is coming up this weekend. Our team has been undefeated for the last three years, and I know the coach is hoping to make it a fourth. He tried recruiting us back in Freshman year, but we weren't interested.

Rumor has it that Kirk and Ryan could easily make it to the big leagues, and they have scouts already watching them. It's such a shame they had to talk to what’s ours, and now they will have to pay the price.

Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dipshit look so cocky down there, flirting with the cheerleaders that are practicing beside them. So, they are stupid enough to flirt with our girl and then hit on some cheerleaders. As much as I want to let them be and fuck up their own lives, they need to be taught a lesson. No one is allowed to touch what is ours. I’ve seen how they have looked at her since the start of school. Of course, Serena is gorgeous. Every guy has taken notice of her, but I have heard the shit those two have said. I’ve overheard them talking about her like she is just a piece of ass, and they want to be the first ones to fuck her.

Yeah, yeah, I know. We did the same thing at first, but that was before I met Serena. The second I saw her, I knew she was more than just a bet. She made me feel something for the first time in way too long. I know she is also making Midas and Odin feel things they haven’t felt before. I have no clue what those feelings are, but I know I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would.

Midas likes to watch his prey first. Figure them out and know what makes them tick. Odin, on the other hand, is a psychopath who likes to jump in with no plan and wing it. I’m a mixture of the two. I prefer to know what I am getting into, but sometimes jumping into the deep end is needed. I never cared if I lived or died until now, until her.

We sat and watched practice, waiting until everyone has left the field. The tweedles were jumping and laughing with each other. If only they knew the hell that awaits them.

None of us need to say anything or even look at each other. We already know the deal. We get up and walk over to the locker room. We take a step in, and all eyes are on us. Kirk and Ryan aren’t standing with the rest of the players. We didn’t see them leave, so they must be in the showers.

“Out,” I say in a deathly calm voice.

No one makes a sound as they run out of the room.

We quietly walk to the back of the locker room. A few more players are hanging around but quickly run when they see us approach. It always makes me laugh at how people react to us. Everyone has heard the rumors of The Kings. The majority are false, but some are true. People just don’t know which is which. Most kids at this school will more than likely stay in town. They will have to deal with us. So, they want to be on our good side.

Kirk and Ryan are in the back, talking about nailing some cheerleaders after the game, high-fiving each other over their potential conquest. Kirk mentions wanting to invite Serena to the game so he can fuck her, and I want to charge in at that moment. Midas holds me back but nods his head. We are thinking the same thing.

We wait for them to come to us. They both are walking around with a towel around their waist. You wouldn’t think they are football players by their screams when they see us.

Odin is twirling a knife in his hand. Ryan and Kirk instantly zone in on the movement and start backing away from us. There is nowhere for them to go, and the chase is always fun. Without thinking, Odin throws his knife, hitting the wall between their heads.

“My aim must be off today,” Odin growls before laughing like the psychopath he is.

“Look, man. Whatever the problem is, we can work it out,” Ryan says with his hands up.

Midas looks at them before walking away. He returns shortly with a wooden baseball bat. I smile at the assholes in front of me, already knowing what Midas plans. He usually lets Odin have his fun when it comes to hurting others, but Midas is just as deadly.

I lean against the wall to take in the show. Midas tosses the bat in his hand. “Do you know why wooden bats are better than aluminum ones?” He quietly asks.

Both guys shake their heads, scared shitless. They know what is going to happen.

“Aluminum bats are light; they flex too easily. Wooden ones, on the other hand,” He stalks towards them. “They are solid. Not easy to break, but when they do you have a nice spear.” He swings the bat against Kirk’s knee, shattering it on impact.

His scream fills the space as he crumbles to the ground. He curls up in a ball and cries. Midas lifts the bat above his head and swings it down on Kirk’s back. An ear-shattering scream leaves him. Ryan stands still, his body shaking. The vile smell of urine hits my nostrils. Ryan is standing in a puddle of his piss. Midas sneers at him before swinging the bat at Ryan's elbow, cracking it on impact.

Ryan crumbles to the floor. Odin and I watch while Midas takes a few more swings. The bat finally breaks over Ryan’s back. Both stare at the broken bat, scared of what Midas will do with it. He menacingly smiles before dropping it.

Midas crouches down in front of them. “You stay the fuck away from Serena.”

We leave them behind, crying and screaming, broken piles of worthless shit on the floor.

We don’t say anything to each other while he saunters to our bikes. I feel we could have done more to them, but their football careers are over before they start. They will never be able to play again. That gives me a sick sense of satisfaction.

The high I feel disappears the second I see Valerie leaning against Midas’s motorcycle. I roll my eyes and push past her- almost making her fall- to get on my bike. I don’t wait to listen to what she has to say. I start my motorcycle, the roar of the engine drowning out her annoying voice before I take off. I drive, not having a destination in mind.
