Page 47 of Mayhem

The drive isn’t long, especially going as fast as we were. We pull into the school, and Zeus parks his bike beside Odin and Midas’s. Midas is leaning against his bike. Odin grabs my hips and lifts me off Zeus’s motorcycle. He takes the helmet off me and shoves it on Midas’s gut, causing him to breathe out a bit of pain. Odin smiles wickedly at him and grabs my hand. Zeus grabs my other as we walk into the school, Midas trailing behind us.

All eyes lock in on us as we walk the halls. I want to shy away from the stares, but I know being with the guys, I need to keep my head held high. Can’t let others affect what I want anymore. Evie is standing waiting for me, her eyes going obnoxiously wide when she looks at me. Odin kisses me on the cheek, and Zeus squeezes my hand before they leave me with her. She rapidly fires a thousand questions about what is happening with me and the Kings.

I honestly don’t know what is going on. There is no label, and that feels right for right now. I don’t know what I want with them or if I could even have something. They are still an anomaly, and my feelings are so confused. I like all three of them, and they all seem to like me too. Even Midas. He was so into me last night, and today, he has been a bit distant, but that's normal for him. I think.

I plan on enjoying this while I can because who knows how long this will last.

Morning classes felt like they were dragging. It’s finally lunchtime. I grab my books before leaving the class, finding Odin and Zeus waiting for me. Odin grabs my books from my arms, and Zeus holds my hand while we walk to my locker.

I've heard the gossip around school about the Kings and me all morning. People called me a slut because I was holding both of their hands. Saying I must be an easy lay. Of course, Valerie started most of the rumors, but I don’t let them bother me. I refuse to let her get the better of me.

Once my books are away, Zeus and Odin grab my hands and walk to the cafeteria. Neither seems to care that they are both holding on to me, and they don’t want to let go either. I ignore how my heart sings and keep myself as neutral as possible.

The guys steer me over to the table that Midas is occupying. His hardened gaze focused on the way his friends were touching me. I can almost hear his teeth grinding from here. His body is tense as if he is jealous. This gives me an idea.

“Thank you for escorting me,” I say a little too sweetly to Odin before kissing him on the corner of his mouth. He tries to turn to get my lips, but I pull away out of his grip. I look up at Zeus. “Shall we go get something to eat?” I place my left hand on his chest and bat my lashes at him.

Zeus doesn’t say anything about the way I am touching him. He looks at my hand, almost confused but I can see happiness in his eyes. Even though I am doing this to drive Midas crazy, I like how this feels. Zeus has always had this feeling of safety and security, like coming home after being gone for a long time. Zeus looks deep into my eyes, and I can see everything he thinks he doesn’t feel. I can see the desire and attraction he has for me. The desire to touch me more. The happiness that I am this close. I could get lost in him and never want to leave.

I hear a growl behind us. The spell we are under breaks. I look over my shoulder at Midas. He is seething with anger. Odin is trying to hide his smirk behind his fist but is failing miserably. I focus back on Zeus, and he finally nods his head to my question. He leads me to the lineup and away from his angry best friend.

Zeus piles a little bit of everything on his tray. I chuckle at the mountain of food before grabbing a chicken burger and some fries. It makes me feel slightly uneasy eating greasy food, but I remind myself that I can do whatever I want.

We head back to the table, Odin and Midas arguing about something, but they stop talking when they see us approaching. I sit down across from Midas while Zeus sits next to me. The guys start talking about a party they plan on throwing for Halloween.

Odin leans over the table and steals some fries from Zeus. Zeus growls like a dog, making Odin laugh. I sometimes think Odin should have been named Loki instead. He is such a troublemaker who loves to stir the pot purely for his entertainment.

“Hey, Loki. Leave him alone and get your own.” I say while throwing a fry at his face. Odin turns to me, confused. The fry hits him in the middle of his eyes. He doesn’t flinch or even notice that I threw it at him. He looks stuck on the name.

“Loki?” He tilts his head like a confused puppy.

“Yes, Loki. The Norse God is known for being a prankster.” I quip back. Odin’s face goes from confused to the biggest smile in a second. Something is brewing in that mind of his.

“Well, well, well. Looks like I am the first to get a nickname from our little princess.” He beams at his two friends while they scowl at him. Is everything a competition between these three? Odin looks back at me. Without missing a beat, Odin gets up, walks around the table and picks me up from my seat. He throws me over his shoulder, and cackles as he runs around the table.

I can’t help but laugh and squeal. I lift my head, and the smile drops from my face. Mr. LaBeau is standing by the door, just staring. I try to squirm out of Odin’s arms, suddenly feeling uncomfortable this close to him. Mr. Labeau’s face scrunches as he watches Odin run around with me.

Odin puts me down on my feet, but my eyes stay locked with Mr. Labeau’s. I don’t understand why he is looking at me the way he is. Odin looks at me, confused by my sudden change, before turning to see what caught my attention. His eyes lock on our teacher. The malice and hatred they both are exuding is making the air toxic. Midas and Zeus notice the three of us in our little stare battle and join us. Midas places a hand on my shoulder and squeezes tightly. I rip my gaze away from the teacher and look up at the King standing behind me.

Midas and I have had our moments of anger towards each other, many of them, but he has never looked at me the way he is glaring at Mr. Labeau. He is in full killer mode right now, and it sends a shiver down my body. I will give it to Mr. Labeau, though. He isn’t backing down under Midas’s glare. I place my hand on Midas’s chest, breaking the connection between the two men. Midas glares down at me. To the world, he may still look extremely pissed off, but I can see his eyes softening. I smile at him, reassuring him. He gives me a small smile before looking back at our teacher. Midas gives him a smug smirk. I don't want to know what is happening between the four of them.

I grab Midas by the hand and drag him back to the table. I push him down onto his seat and try to sit in my chair. Midas pulls my hand, so I fall into his lap. Almost instinctively, one of his arms wraps around my waist, and his other hand is gripping my thigh, almost in a claiming of territory way. Mr. Labeau hasn’t stopped looking at us until another teacher catches his attention. I watch the look of disgust morph into professionalism so quickly.

Odin and Zeus sit down with us. Both in front of me, creating a wall, blocking off contact with anyone. The rest of the lunch was quiet and awkward. Gone was the easygoing fun we were having. Now, there is just an awkward tension that you could easily cut with a knife. No one speaks. The guys are all wearing varying faces of anger. As much as I want to ask what the hell is going on, now is not the time.

It’s finally the last period of the day. Mr. Labeau had been staring daggers at the Kings the entire period. None of them looked phased by his glares, but the warning bells in my head were ringing. Something is going on, but I don’t know what.I hate not knowing what is going on around me.

The bell rings, signaling the end of the day. Odin grabs my books from my desk while giving me a playful wink. Zeus wraps an arm around me and walks with me to the door.

“Ms. Gold, do you have a minute?” Mr. Labeau asks.

I look up at Zeus. I can’t tell what he thinks, but he doesn’t like the idea. I didn’t want to stay behind anyway. I can’t put my finger on it, but something about him that creeps me out to my core. Then again, I have had that feeling about a few people in this town. Mainly the guy's dads.

“Not happening.” Midas barks out from behind me, placing his hand on my hip. Mr. Labeau’s jaw is thrumming, his body radiating anger. He doesn’t say anything else as Midas escorts me from the room.

We walk down the hallway towards my locker. Everyone’s eyes widen when they see Midas’s arm around my waist and Odin and Zeus walk beside us. I can hear the whispers.
